D&D 5E [Very Long Indeed] Reconciling Combat as War and Combat as Sports in 5ed

One of the key issues with CAW situations is that the players may survive an horribly imbalanced encounter through wits alone. CAS in 4E has some very hard coded expections for damage output that scales by level. Even using the special situation rules from the DMG a Heroic tier group going up...

Social Skills, starting to bug me.

One of my biggest gripes is many social mechanics totally divorce themselves from the character themselves. I would dearly enjoy specific bonuses to social situations based on class and background. Wizards may get a bonus to diplomacy when showing off their knowledgeor Intimidate when...

The Crapification of Organized Play - Unavoidable?

For me organized play has fallen apart at day 1 because of the complexity of entry. WoTC for the longest time made things devilishly hard to get into a game because they didn't have RPGA registration on a website or making it easier to just walk in and play. Premade characters, scenarios, etc...

[Very Long] Combat as Sport vs. Combat as War: a Key Difference in D&D Play Styles...

I sorry I found this post so late: What's hilarious is I've spent years trying to describe the Combat As War (CAW) playstyle for ages. I even came up with a term for it with my group(s). Magical Engineer Commandos My groups have been playing like the fantasy version of the A-Team for years...

Are Casters 'still' way better than noncasters after level 6?

As with any game I think a LOT of this depends on the types of players your dealing with. Let me give you an example of my players for a "type". Magical Engineer Commandos - They operate under a ideology of maximizing their benefit and efficiency in play but not at the cost of 1 player vs...

    Human Form Dragons

Also, figure out how strong the Dragon's Ego is. Some would only assume "nobel" versions of whatever they turn into. Why by a hawk when you can be an Eagle, why be a beggar when you can pass yourselff as a landed nobel. Etc.

    APG Help

I can only speak for the Druid myself. Both the Desert and the Lion Druid builds would favor someone in this setting. Both from thematic but from mechanicaly benefit.

When/If should Prestige Classes be introduced?

But when are they used correctly? Got some good examples?

When/If should Prestige Classes be introduced?

After picking up the APG when it came out I loved the archtypes for their ease at simulating specalites in each of the class with out requireing vastly different base attack math, or much in the way of diminishing returns. The few additional Prestige Classes seem to fit the same roles the core...

    Controlling the Cohorts

The way I run it is the players run the co-hort in battle with GM veto on any action that would be counter to their thinking. ie. No suicide runs w/out good reason. Etc.

Pathfinder 1E What project would you like Paizo to tacke next for Pathfinder?

Psionics and Monster PCs. Epic level play would be on my 'Do Not Want' list.

Martial Power 2 - Comments, Reviews, Noteworthy Stuff?

It's all looking good. I'm just worried that we won't see things like Arcane or Primal Power 2.

An idea for a "third" book in the Campaign Setting sets.

I shot a msg to Chris at WoTC so who knows. I'm sure they get a dozen ideas each day.

An idea for a "third" book in the Campaign Setting sets.

Well, a great deal of changed in the FR setting in the last 100 years. I'd find a book like this would help give me a depth of foes to face.

An idea for a "third" book in the Campaign Setting sets.

Originally posted on RPG.net [4E] A idea for a 'third' book for setting. - RPGnet Forums But I thought I'd throw it here to see if anyone else liked this idea. The idea in a nut shell is to add a 3rd book in the setting material for each of the published Campaign settings. This book would be...

    What exactly is OGL bloat?

Too many unsupported books that payed little attention to balance or rules presented in the core 3.X products basically.

    Ritual Economy

Hmm. That works better. A lot of times it seems a feat can grant most of a class feature I just didn't know if I had gone far enough. I debated putting this up in Houserules, but this OP was also my issue and thoughts on ritual casting and the costs involved. I want to make the players...

    Ritual Economy

I've cross posted this at rpg.net but I was curious what the Enworld folks thought about the subject. Thanks. I've been thinking about what I call 'fluff' magic from earlier editions of D&D. The lion share of which have been handed over to ritual casting. One of the biggest issues I have with...
