    Is it crowded?

Is the foreseeable future of the RPG market crowded? With all these kickstarters and hope for new editions of games, how do the waters look? For an aspiring game writer, such would be worth knowing, as well as worth debating.

    D&D 5E And now for the flip-side

In an earlier post, I asked for the fears of playtesters. Now I ask for what they are hopeful about. And while this list could be very very long, I ask you limit it to the single greatest thing you've seen for far in it. Once again, please remain civil with your responses and debates, I don't...

    D&D 5E Maybe I'm just tired?

I'm not sure, but I really don't see that much I like in NEXT. What, if any, are your biggest fears with NEXT? Try to remain civil guys, I'm not trying to start a flamewar, just trying to address the negatives in a positive and civilized manner.

Pathfinder 1E Of Scrolls and Sorcerers.

Simple question. Most likely answered in the Corebook. can sorcerers learn new spells from scrolls? Please site the page and/or text in your response, I need accuracy.

    My problem.

Ironically, about 5 minutes after I posted this, I created a Horror RPG with the mechanics based on cards, not dice. The GM has an entire deck of cards. Each player has 2 complete suits (one suit red, one suit black) Any time there is a conflict the GM pulls a card at random from his deck...

    My problem.

Having been playing table top games since the age of 6, it is all I know. Just like a kid who was raised on football or baseball, I want to be a professional in the game world. So how is this a problem? I can sit around all day and crank out setting after setting. Anything from fantasy, to...

    Pathfinder 1E Taint in Pathfinder

I am going to be starting the minicampaign of Ravenloft with a group and I want to have taint rules in there. And insanity (if it comes up). Which rules do you feel best fit taint? Just use the 3.5 Heroes of Horror taint rules?

You are using Bonetti's Defense against me, ah?

Again, the game I have created uses Intelligence and Agility (2 separate abilities) for initiative. Thus how quick your character can think on his or her toes, and then how he or she can act on them.

Is Time Travel (going backwards) Possible?

Time is often seen as a river, a single flowing length of something. Many like to believe it has many possible branches and roots and pathways and there are many different 'times' But really, time is like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly stuff.

Is Time Travel (going backwards) Possible?

Backwards would be the only theoretical way to travel. The future has endless possibilities and thus cannot be a location. Backwards, however, means that you have already traveled back in time, and thus cannot change anything, for it would have been changed in your life already. We can argue...

You are using Bonetti's Defense against me, ah?

I've worked on a system myself that has a character option that allows you to use intelligence rather than strength or reflexes in melee. Since you cannot represent all fighting styles, real world and fictional, it is best to just have some broad umbrella.

    Scare of the century!

What made it so scary was that I was JUST about to begin editing the rule's wording so it would make sense. I finished an entire system's mechanics AND IT ALMOST WAS ALL GONE I'd have been so depressed.

Where would you put a D&D museum?

A table top museum would be more ideal, with wings for RPGs, Wargames, and even Card games. Each with a wing, and this allowing none to be excluded, preventing a flame war, and thus possibly saving the nerd community as a whole. 4e vs Pathfinder wasn't the issue. We are all allowed our...

    Alignment: Chosen or awarded?

If you were playing a game where there were no alignment based spells or abilities (like Rifts for example, or CoC if I remember correctly) Would you still care? Would you instead prefer to build your character's "morals" at their start, and then play as them, for roleplay? Do you prefer...

    Mechanics vs. Setting

I mean a game where the mechanics are so enslaved to the world, where how you roll deals with the world, that it just feels wrong.

    Alignment: Chosen or awarded?

This is not a poll, as many of my previous questions have been, but rather a discussion. When you make a character, is alignment a choice you make or something based on your actions? Obviously, many games let you choose, but how does this affect your character? Would it change the way you...

    Mechanics vs. Setting

Personally, I find the mechanics to be more important. While the setting can be amazing (Rifts) the mechanics are odd. In 4e, the mechanics are amazing (despite my personal dislikes of the game, it does run well) but the setting is, for me, not my favorite. I have a special hatred in my heart...

    Mechanics vs. Setting

What is your stance on games who focus on mechanics more than setting? Or games where the mechanics come from the setting?

    Scare of the century!

This could probably go in story telling, but I'd like to leave it open for others to rant. So last night, I fell asleep on the couch, with my laptop next to me. This morning I woke up, and I didn't respond, so I figured the battery died. I plugged it in, and it still didn't respond. Then it...

How Important is leveling in RPGs?

I actually present the poll to see if an idea of mine would work. The idea was to have a game where you don't level numerically, but in the narrative. You wouldn't increase numbers on your character, abilities and skills wouldn't get better. Weapons and tools can, sure, and the GM may alter...
