D&D General WizKids Issues Refund for Baldur’s Gate 3 Character Boxed Set

Those are pretty dire, and not in a good way. It seems like at some point there would be a market for a computer-controlled machine able to paint minis according to a program. Combine a 3D printer with inkjet technology not made by HP or Canon, and some sensors. Or do whatever Heroforge does...

    D&D 5E (2014) Aerial combat in 5e

Pretty much this, except I skipped the graph paper. My Against the Idol of the Sun had Aarakocra as the main enemies and a lot of flying boats. Everything is 5' cubes, with a "floor" of the top of the jungle canopy typically 20' below the fixed cruising height of the flying boats. The use of...

D&D General Would You Play High Level (12-15);Wiith Pre Generated Characters? Mostly 5.0/5.5 but theoretically any edition.

I would prefer a non-pregen character because that way I would be familiar with the rules. For some of my players IRL? A pre-gen character with a good summary sheet is going to be better than hopping on Beyond and building something (with a mix of 5e and 5.24 rules by accident) that they don't...

D&D 5E (2024) A Different Way To Run High Level Monsters

My Baldur's Gate II party is about to drop onto Jierdan Firkraag, an ancient red dragon. The 5.14 MM dragon is pretty solidly threatening, although I was planning to also drop in a "spit fire" ranged attack in place of the bite. I didn't feel like the a5e Red Dragon was as strong or useful...

D&D 5E (2014) If you could run or play in any D&D 5e campaign right now, which would it be?

Published: Probably White Plume Mountain, although I think that may be a module instead of a campaign. Definitely something in the level 8-18 range instead of a 3 to 10.

    D&D 5E (2024) Modest Ranger Fix

I play 5e, not 5.24, but my houserule is that Rangers get +Wismod to damage against Favored Enemies, starting at level 1. It's fine, it's not OP, and it's certainly not worth being a capstone feature. It's only certain enemy types, and Wisdom is a secondary stat so for most of the game it's +2...

    D&D 5E (2024) I attack the darkness!

One of my early houserules was that if you can't see your target, you have disadvantage on your attack roll, even if they can't see you. There are a few ways to negate the disadvantage of course (5e True Strike, Reckless Attack, etc.). Yep. I do have a soft range cap for this... you can't...

D&D 5E (2024) "No magic items are necessary" vs Magic Items Awarded by Level

I wrote and ran a 13-20 campaign, I'm currently running a high magic availability Baldur's Gate II 5e campaign, and I'm currently running an epic module (playtest) with multiple epic boons. I have a pretty free hand with magic items and don't see it as a problem. In the 13-20 campaign, the...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5.0 Retrospective. Races Most/Least Popular (anecdotes).

I've seen lots of dwarves, humans, elves half-elves, and half-orcs. A few tieflings, goliaths, dragonborn, and halflings. No Aasimars, gnomes, eladrin. I feel like I'm leaving something out but I don't know what.

D&D General Former WotC Employee Greg Bilsland Returning to D&D?

DuckDuckGo results indicate he left in 2016 after helping develop 5e.

    D&D 5E (2014) Users of D&D 2014 - What are you using from 2024? +

I updated Brutal Critical to give a flat bonus = barbarian level on critical hits. I had long ago houseruled Berserker to be better. I updated Indomitable to give +Fighter Level on the reroll and healing when used. I think that's it.

D&D General Sandbox style: Rumors say a +1 sword is in a cave nearby. Go get it?

"The sword magically makes your swing just a bit faster, and the edge is magically sharp and durable. It doesn't rust and you don't have to sharpen it after every battle." There, it's a +1. Slightly more likely to hit, slightly sharper, and it doesn't rust.

D&D General Sandbox style: Rumors say a +1 sword is in a cave nearby. Go get it?

My grandpappy says that his brother Earl was an adventurer. He went off and fought in the Grell Wars, and came home with a magic sword. People kept trying to steal it, so grandpappy said Earl hid it in a cave. Earl died a decade ago and gramps kind of forgot about it for a while. An owlbear...

D&D General Sandbox style: Rumors say a +1 sword is in a cave nearby. Go get it?

Depending on the game world's economy, that +1 sword might be worth several years earnings. "Risk your life for treasure?" is a question that throughout history some people answer with "Yes."

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

That's mostly because there is no free choice. At work we have to run Windows 11. I am running a much older version at home because a working Recent Documents menu and data privacy is more important to me than the newest AI gizmo. I lose 5-10 minutes per day in Windows 11 switching documents...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Hi! Some of us have experienced numerous problem running 2014 games because players who are less detail-oriented or aware of the differences accidentally create characters that use 5.24 content. Would it be possible to get a checkbox in the allowed sources section to disable 2024 rules entirely...
