D&D General Would You Play High Level (12-15);Wiith Pre Generated Characters? Mostly 5.0/5.5 but theoretically any edition.

Legend
DM pitches a game. Level 12-15 but they're using pregenerated characters. DM has a clue and has equipped them reasonably well (2 very rare, two rares, several uncommons potentially 1 legendary each. Items make sense for the build but they're not power combo builds. Eg a wizard might have a staff of power and a wand of lightning but no +3/+2/+3 spell DC stacking combos (you might have 1 item).

Using B33 as an example. Could be anything. Though. BG4 pitch. Option B is no game you don't get to play Level 12. Basic idea is reduced complexity vs play what you want.

Astarion. Level 12 Rogue:thief.

Gale: Level 12 Invoker.

Halsin; Moon Druid 12

Karlach; Level 12 Berzerker Barbarian

Laezel: Level 12 Champion or Eldritch Knight.

Jaheira. Level 12 Land Druid

Wyll. Level 12 fiendpact Warlock

Minthara Level 12 Avenging Paladin.

Shadowheart level 12 light or trickery cleric

Minsc: Level 12 beast master ranger.

Something like that. Each character is condensed on a hand out detailing equipment, feats and class options chosen. You have to transfer it to a character sheet. Some builds may be multiclassed but you're still limited by what the DM has designed.

For the most part you're free to play them however you like. There's no rail loaded backstory beyond pre selected back grounds/origins. There may be a campaign story so far if you're parachuting into a higher level AP but it's up to you how your selected character plays.

Fair enough. Ots a short campaign 12 -16 sessions give or take
5 levels? Yeah, Id make a new character for that.

Would it make sense to offer the pregens and tell the players they can rewrite whatever they want.

If the players are uncertain or just want to start adventuring, they will probably be happy to use the pregens as-is. Whereas I would be happy enough to customize it.

I'd play absolutely anything if I knew the DM and other players were great to hang out with. Fun people beats everything in terms of game rules, every time.

That said, I would be really against playing pregenerated characters, and it would take much of the fun out of playing DnD. Your idea still sounds like it could be a great time as long as I loved the group, but it would be more fun without the pre-gens

Pregen characters are for tournament style environments: i.e.one shots/single adventures. This allows the DM to customize them to fit the needs of the adventure, such as making sure they have a specific spell or ability available, and story reasons to be involved/invested. However, anything that goes long enough to level is too much IMO, especially if the DM has pre-determined the level up.

12-15 derp. I've gone to level 13-14 but tend to wrap up around 10.

Just an idea atm.

I wouldn't run those levels atm without pre gens is my thinking.

I'm planning on level 11 atm maybe 12. Currently 9.

I would prefer a non-pregen character because that way I would be familiar with the rules.
For some of my players IRL? A pre-gen character with a good summary sheet is going to be better than hopping on Beyond and building something (with a mix of 5e and 5.24 rules by accident) that they don't fully understand.
I'd give it a whirl and ask if a respec is possible if there are specific aspects we don't like (for example, I prefer my barbarians with TWF and Mobile for versatility over Big Stick).
