DM pitches a game. Level 12-15 but they're using pregenerated characters. DM has a clue and has equipped them reasonably well (2 very rare, two rares, several uncommons potentially 1 legendary each. Items make sense for the build but they're not power combo builds. Eg a wizard might have a staff of power and a wand of lightning but no +3/+2/+3 spell DC stacking combos (you might have 1 item).
Using B33 as an example. Could be anything. Though. BG4 pitch. Option B is no game you don't get to play Level 12. Basic idea is reduced complexity vs play what you want.
Astarion. Level 12 Rogue:thief.
Gale: Level 12 Invoker.
Halsin; Moon Druid 12
Karlach; Level 12 Berzerker Barbarian
Laezel: Level 12 Champion or Eldritch Knight.
Jaheira. Level 12 Land Druid
Wyll. Level 12 fiendpact Warlock
Minthara Level 12 Avenging Paladin.
Shadowheart level 12 light or trickery cleric
Minsc: Level 12 beast master ranger.
Something like that. Each character is condensed on a hand out detailing equipment, feats and class options chosen. You have to transfer it to a character sheet. Some builds may be multiclassed but you're still limited by what the DM has designed.
For the most part you're free to play them however you like. There's no rail loaded backstory beyond pre selected back grounds/origins. There may be a campaign story so far if you're parachuting into a higher level AP but it's up to you how your selected character plays.
