Cancelling a session / not attending a session.

My group will still play if one person can't make it, usually (unless, of course, it's the DM). I will miss sessions, or if I'm the DM, cancel sessions because I do have other interests aside from RPGing, and sometimes those will take precedence due to the fact we game weekly, and those events...

Ever had a game stolen from you?

Now it almost sounds like they're being difficult for the sake of being difficult.

Ever had a game stolen from you?

Alright, that makes some sense. I was originally picturing you giving them a bunch of options and they wanted to do none of them, or couldn't decide and got frustrated. So, is it something where they have a goal at the outset, but one of them does/says something interesting that could lead...

Ever had a game stolen from you?

If they want to be railroaded, why not? Wouldn't you have far more narrative control in that way? I know some players hate being railroaded, but really, if that's what your players want--one "choice", a clear goal, why not go for it? (I'm honestly curious on this point.)

    Combat length and Adventure pacing

If I'm misinterpreting what you're saying here, I apologize, but it seems to me you're talking about something I've noticed as a player in 4e...I'm looking at my options in combat, looking at the surroundings, thinking of all these cool things I could try to do from a cinematic or heroic...

    D&D in the classroom

Nice use of the hobby, and a great way to introduce fun into long days of school, while still keeping their minds active. If you're looking for a rules-lighter system that might be better suited for 1 hour sessions, you might look into Savage Worlds. My group just recently started trying it...

Blink Strike + Hammerfall Step = 7 squares of Teleport?

This question came up in a game the other night. I have a wizard with the Arcane Wayfarer PP, and one of the abilities is Blink Strike (on a critical hit, you teleport the target 4 squares). The 11th level encounter power Hammerfall Step teleports targets 3 squares on a hit. Do these stack...

New D&D video game in the works. Its a MMO

I can't quite place my finger on it, but there is just a fundamental part of what makes an MMO and MMO that I just cannot get into. I've tried a few, and I just cannot stay interested. WoW was the longest I played one (a few months), but that can mostly be attributed to the fact many of my...

Have the dice ever managed to give your character an interesting personality trait?

I don't mean rolling on a table of personality quirks or anything, but rather a bunch of bad (or good) rolls in certain situations that seem to say something about the character... This is inspired by my current character. I have an Eladrin Wizard who I played through Thunderspire Labyrinth...

Do you actually CARE about your PC?

I do. So much so, that I've figured out a plausible (within the context of D&D, anyway) reason for my wizard that was originally in a homebrewish world for Thunderspire Labyrinth is now in Eberron for our next adventure. This is not an alternate, Eberron version of the character, but the same...

    Slow combats

I discussed this with one member of my group (the guy who was DMing before me), and we came to the conclusion that some of our group tries to play other people's characters enough as it is. :P I'm making the monsters go a bit more clustered together from my side of the screen, though.

A question regarding Swordmage Multiclass feats...

I'm making a Wizard with a multiclass into Swordmage. Before the recent update, the Character Builder had let me choose both the Heart of the Blade and Blade Initiate MC feats. After the last update, my character is now considered houseruled, and I realized it's because of the two MC feats. It...

Chaotic alignments and roleplaying… what’s your take?

Depends on the flavor of Chaotic. To me, a CG character looks at the final outcome, and wants it to be Good, but if some people get hurt or possibly even killed along the way to that "greater good", they don't worry too much about it.

Immediate Powers that gives bonus. How can we know when use them?

In our games the DM always just asks "does X hit your [defense]?". The DM doesn't even keep track of player defenses because they change so often from different buffs and statuses that it's too much work for the DM to keep track of it all, and if the DM just says "You get hit", the player...

How we Speed up our Encounters -- what about you?

Good point. I thought about that and had just come back to edit my post. :P I'll have to run this by my group. I just have a feeling that the "extra turn" issue would be raised, which I think is why I immediately jumped to it before I thought about it.

How we Speed up our Encounters -- what about you?

This sounds intriguing. What is the number to beat the monsters based off of? Also, reading what you said, it sounds like there is the potential for some PCs to get an extra turn in there? How has that worked out for you? I could see players getting jealous of the person with a huge...

Trigger: You are hit by an attack

As a DM I'd prefer it to be used before you find out the damage total, but it's not really gamebreaking if it's used after damage is revealed. I wouldn't tell someone they couldn't use it in such a situation. (As a player I know that sometimes you forget you have a counter to something as soon...
