    Is your name unique?

I still can't believe how many people use "Zappo". Every time I try to register on a web site and get a "user name already in use" I wonder what kind of dumbass loser could use my traditional UID.

    Your shoulders will love this

Huh. I often do that instinctively. I didn't think that it would actually be written down somewhere.

How do you keep track of game time? Or do you?

I don't keep track of time very precisely. I use about the level of precision you'd find in the average fantasy book; unless the plot demands it, I don't know what day of the week it is, but I know the month. I don't keep track of torch duration 'cause everyone uses perpetual torches, and I...

    Best Magic System

There is no "best" magic system. There is only a magic system which fits your setting. I wouldn't use Cthulhu magic in D&D, ever. I wouldn't use Mage magic either. Or Stormbringer summoning. But they are all very good systems.

DM overruling a Player's play of his character

I'm honestly surprised that so many people think that the character should react in the same way in both situations. He screams when that's useful. I can't see how that could be considered metagaming.

    Do you drink?

I drink socially. Sometimes, a lot. But I don't drink at mealtimes, and I don't drink alone.

    Shareware the Pirates?

I'm with Thalmin. It's a good idea in theory, but wouldn't it effectively tell people that they can buy your stuff for a penny?

    Are spell DC's too low?

Monsters use a standard array of 10,10,10,11,11,11 or 13,12,11,10,9,8. That is 15 points. Elite monsters use an array of 15,14,13,12,10,8, or 25 points, but then their CR is increased by 1. Baseline PCs are supposed to be a fair bit above norm. Anyway, I don't think that DCs are too low. You...

Outsiders mop the floor with spellcasters

Elementals are very dangerous to a fighter of the same CR, and undead are a rogue's bane. The idea that not all classes are equally good against all foes is rather common. My party spellcasters deal with outsiders by taking Spell Penetration and hoping for the best. This isn't so bad; tanar'ri...

Terry Pratchett doesn't like JK Rowling

*shrug* I have no "venom" at Rowling, and I'm quite positive that Pratchett hasn't either. However, she did say a few things about the fantasy genre that aren't true - namely, that it was stuck into "an idealised, romanticised, pseudofeudal world, where knights and ladies morris-dance to...

What causes boredom in a game session?

In the campaigns I DM, it's definitely players taking too much time discussing ideas or tactics, by far. In fact, it's the only thing I'm actively trying to change in my group. It happens both in and out of combat; they have to discuss everything ad nauseam until everyone agrees or, failing...

    Geek Test

1890 - Level 6 geek (Leader of the Golden Crown and Rear Admiral of the Fleet). Nothing on Star Trek or LARPs, but pretty much all of the rest. :heh:

    Warcraft's mass combat system

Yeah. The issue is with ranged-attack units really. There's no way that 10 archers are just as effective as 50 archers, until someone engages them.

    Warcraft's mass combat system

Well, well. I've ran a couple of battles and the system seems to mostly work. I've made casters act the same way as units - basically, two actions per battle round. Giving orders counts as an action. So they can cast two spells, but they give up two orders. The players accepted this and it seems...

Vision for your campaign 10 years from now?

10 years? 10 years from now my current campaign will be over. And the one after the current one, too. And the one after that. Maybe the one after that will be in progress, though. I've got too many cool settings to try to stick with one campaign for my life.

    [Practice] Viewpoint

When DMing, it's always third person. When I play, it's almost always first person, except when I want to make the distinction between player and character exceedingly clear for some reason.

    Suspension of Disbelief

I agree with Numion. The fact that I am faced with a crosswords puzzle does much more to hurt my suspension of disbelief than the language the puzzle is in. When a puzzle shows up, it is obvious that the situation has shifted from being an in-game challenge for the character to an out-of-game...

Do you read non-RPG fantasy novels?

The vast majority of fantasy novels that are based on RPGs are utter drek. Of the stuff I read, which includes lots of Dragonlance, a bit of FR and Athas and some White Wolf, only the original Dragonlance "Dragons of..." and "Twins" trilogies were any good. It's not that the idea of making a...
