    What's new with the GSL?

I'm curious about the trademark purchase too. Also the Global licensing summit, especially in light of the european trip mentioned in your linked posts, and the recent news about the termination of F&S's license to print German translations of the books. Still, The Rouse, you could probably...

    Gorgons in D&D

IIRC, the metal bull gorgon actually shows up in a bestiary by Pliny the Elder in the first century AD, so that version has been around for a while. And the third Gorgon Sister is Euryale--Who has her own D&D cameo as a card in the Deck of Many Things.

Forked Thread: Want to help design a New Cosmology for any Edition?

At the beginning of time, there was the sun. Surrounding the sun was the eternal darkness, and between the two was naught but ether. But eon after eon, the darkness encroached. Soon the ether would be gone, and the sun would be smothered. So the sun cast out thousands of stars--shining...

    Superhero Goodness

That's kinda the point. The flash has the most ridiculously Pseudoscientific background ever, and I wanted to preserve that.

    Superhero Goodness

Inspired by this cool re-imagining of the X-Men in a Victorian Occult theme, I've been thinking about how the X-Men might look if they'd evolved as independent superheroes, along the lines of the Justice League. Here are my takes: Professor X + Superman = Professor Superior On the planet...

    Halloween Adventures?

Halloween adventures: meh Dia de los Muertos adventures: AWESOME! "The adventure begins," I explained, "on a plane, heading towards southern mexico." I indicate the plane that I've drawn on the battlemap. "The Hoffmann Institute has recieved word of a very unusual find." I placed the team's...

D&D 4E Classless 4e and adaptation for the Superhero Genre

Inspired by posts on this forum about classless 4e, I've been working on a 4e-based superhero game. It's not quite classless, but it retains the idea of everyone picking their powers from one big list without sacrificing 4e's tactical depth. Here's what I've got so far--I appreciate your...

    New Superhero RPG

Since superheros seem pretty popular in this forum right now, I want to share the 4e-based superhero game that I've been working on. Here's what I've got so far--Comments are appreciated: Great Responsibility: Introduction Creating Spider Man, Part I: Origins Creating Spider Man, Part II...

    How to make a boardgame?

My local gaming convention, PolyCon, has an independent game design contest, with a $500 prize (IIRC). Entry deadline is usually in mid-to-late spring. Write coninfo@polycon.org for information.

Need some help fleshing out (or changing) this NPC idea

What if the nephew joined the pirates not out of greed, but out of shame: The attack happened during the nephew's assigned watch, but the nephew was asleep at his post. The cruel pirate convinced the captured nephew that the slaughter was partially his fault, and that if the dwarves ever found...

Preview of my Naval WWI/Steampunk game

I've been busy procrastinating from packing for tomorrow's move (and for that matter, procrastinating from other game design work) So I came up with the first several cards for one of my side-projects, a WWI/Steampumk Naval Game. The basic idea of the game is that you control a nation's navy...

Let me help you find the right board game

TransAmerica/TransEuropa seems a little bit short for two hours. It's a fun, short game (and the only rail game I can be convinced to play), but it can start to get boring if you play for hours on end.

[Board Games] Any board games with an Egeyptian feel to it?

I definitely recommend Cleopatra and the Society of Architects. It's an excellent game, and it'll probably end up with the most Egyptian feel just because it's so visually interesting.

[Board Games] Board Games with mutable Boards?

The version of RoboRally I've played has a variable board setup, though I've been told that this is toned down in the newer additions.

    WotC Spring 2009 Catalog

Shocked? Frankly, it's such an obviously dumb idea that I'd by shocked if anyone in WotC even considered it.

Confessions of a full time Wizard confession

It's not really described as a 'pet', though. It's described as a 'buddy', and the references to 'personal trainer' might be describing the pet (it's ambiguous, though--could also be referring to the class itself). My guess, based on fleeting references to 'patron' in Races & Classes, is the Bard.

Discussions about writing in '4e compatable' mode?

Assuming that WotC has registered the books with the US copyright office (which is pretty much a no-brainer for commercially produced works), then they can sue for Statutory Damages instead of actual damages. Rather than trying to prove how much they lost and/or their competitors unfairly...

    Design and Development: Monsters

Except that the math doesn't bear this out. With a 1d2 recharge rate, you actually get a 66% chance of being able to use the ability on a given round. I suspect that the probability of being able to use an ability that recharges after 1dn rounds averages to 2/(n+1). If true, that's: Recharge...
