    D&D 5E (2014) Map of 5e Forgotten Realms?

Love that map. I was really put off by the aesthetic of the 3e and 4e versions. I hope we can get something on that line (more detailed, of course) in the future. Then again, I still use Karen Wynn Fonstad's atlas whenever playing in FR.

D&D 5E (2014) An adventure start for new PCs isn't railroading...

"You are all sitting on a railroad..." I completely agree. In fact, that sort of start is my favourite way to begin a campaign. I see it more as an in media res resource than any kind of railroading.

    WotC: "Why We Aren’t Funny"

    Hah! I hadn't noticed that.

    On Evil

I tend to base my interpretations of good and evil in D&D on a rough version of the "Object, Intention, Circumstance" method from the Catholic Catechism. It basically goes as follows: 1.- The object is your goal, what you want to achieve. "I want to hurt that man", "I want to help that man"...

    Boss Monster [Card game]

That's always a possibility, true. But I think the pros of keeping everyone playing outweigh the potential cons. It depends heavily on the types of players, though.

    Boss Monster [Card game]

A few weeks ago I found Boss Monster by accident at a videogame store, and last week I finally got to try it out. BM is a non-collectible card game for 2 to 4 players by Brotherwise Games, themed after classic side-scrolling games like Castlevania and retro-RPGs, in which you play the role of a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Atheism in DnD

There is a canonical basis for questioning the nature of a deity, set by Planescape, first by manifesting the conflict presented by the fact multiple entities claimed divine rule over the exact same things (I remember there being at least two different gods of pools, like four of sleep, and over...

    AD&D 1E What 1e Books Should Make a 5e Comeback?

Manual of the Planes! It's often my favourite supplement of every edition, and with the return to a Great Wheelish model, I'd love to see a reinstalment. Maybe they could throw it in while doing a planar-based storyline. Deities & Demigods I'd be happy to see as well, though in a line similar...

D&D 5E (2014) Out of the Abyss - No Drizzt afterall?

It seems that, for now, he has drizzappeared; he must be elfwhere.

    The Geekification of Everything?

His aim went beyond just a sense of personal achievement; he spoke of nerdom as a sort of valve that helps them regulate exposure to social circumstances without getting overwhelmed, giving them a chance to explore what they are otherwise missing. Since people with social pathologies tend to...

    The Geekification of Everything?

A very interesting read. I've always been of the impression that the end of nerdom would relate to its banalization, rather than strictly to massification. One of the things that makes nerdom simultaneously so appealing and unappealing is how extreme it can get; it can motivate someone enough...

Pathfinder Online Layoffs; Ryan Dancey Leaves Company

A sad thing. I participated in both Kickstarters with a pretty decent amount of money (also got a buddy in for the second), so I had a lot of hopes for this game. Though I was a bit underwhelmed when the first playable versions came out, I'm a very patient man and thought to check back in a...

    The Caller and the Mapper

On the rare occasion I get to sit on the other side of the DM's screen, I always take the mapper role; I love trying to figure out a dungeon by carefully putting it on paper, and comparing them to what the DM had drawn once the game ends. I also love drawing maps in general, so it's a win-win...

Rage of Demons: "D&D On Hard Mode"

Never been one to run pre-made modules (last time I did was in the late 90's with Chronicles of the Dragonlance), but what I've read so far has me really tempted to try out Out of the Abyss. Some of those NPCs sound fantastic.

    subverting the "captured damsel" trope

What if the PCs get to the damsel and realise they've got it all backwards, and they are the ones being rescued? Maybe the cultists have purposely drawn the party into the temple, hurling themselves at the PCs and having them face all sorts of dangers as a test (perhaps they're seeking a worthy...

    D&D 5E (2014) Atheism in DnD

Athar: Typical clueless, worshipping anything that can put on a show with enough sparkles. Signer: Were you talking to me? Athar: No. Signer: Silly friend, you surely must be talking to me. I'm all there is to talk about, after all.

    D&D 5E (2014) Atheism in DnD

I understand what you say. But what I'm trying to aim at is that all those are displays of supernatural power -which is abundant in most D&D settings, and abundant in the rules themselves-; whether or not said power has a divine origin is the question. And even though people asking that question...
