Armor & Coins - please, No.

That's odd... you're most annoyed by the addition that makes the most sense to me. Who says Astral Diamonds have to be mined? And even if they do, we've got tons of precedent for floating chunks of rock in the Astral- just think about all those dead gods whose flesh begins to crystallize as...

    D&D 4E I really don't like the new 4E PHB cover

I've got a nickle to betcha that those parents won't mind dragonborn anywhere near as much as they'd mind the tiefling with the goat horns. I'm not a bit fan of either picture either. I would've preferred some type of action shot- a re-do of the Erol Otus cover of the Moldvay edition, for example.

    Meditations on BECMI/Classic

1st edition and what Dausuul is talking about are two different beasts. 1st edition AD&D, or what most people refer to as 1e, is at least (depending on who you talk to) the 3rd edition. 4e will be at least the 6th edition. (1) Original D&D, or OD&D, was played by very few people. It's the...

D&D 4E The 4e human racial package: what we know

If Human Perseverance also gave +1 to all defenses, then it'd be a very good feat. Otherwise... sorry, +1 to just saving throws, when you already have a 55% success chance? It'd be a "meh" feat for me, unless all feats were on the level of the dodge feat in 3.5e.

D&D 4E The 4e human racial package: what we know

Okay, so we have a couple of interesting tidbits: * Humans definitely get a bonus feat. The poor schmuck human cleric used it on what looks to be a terrible racial feat (human perseverance) that will hopefully scale or be a prerequisite for a much better feat. I'm betting other races have...

    Tactical Boardgame?

The true irony is that, in my estimation, it's LESS of a boardgame than 3.5e. Some of the most fiddly rules, insituted because we have to play it on a square grid, were tossed out the window. No more diagonal movement adjudication. No more weird reach vs. burst oddness. If anything, 4e is...

Wizard Spells 10-16 Two Page Spread

I absolutely love the new spells in terms of intended effect, but the sparse descriptions are so vague that it's going to drive people like me batty. Does Frostburn deal 3d6+int damage that counts as both fire and cold, or does it deal both 3d6+int fire and 3d6+int cold damage. Does any attack...

Can Someone else plaese post the cleric and ranger sheets?

The site that the guy who first (very graciously) posted them uses viciously disagrees with my computer. Can anyone post them directly, like he did the warlock sheet?

Camping: It does a body good!

Well, I'm willing to bet that it doesn't. Just like 3.5e didn't, at least not in any sense that was realistic. Fighter guy gets stabbed in 3.5e and goes unconscious. He stabilizes miraculously at -9hp, spends at least 8 hours lying unconscious, then might jump up and be at full abilities...

26th level rogue vs. Smiley McFirePants

Crimson Edge is a Daily attack. I expect higher Daily powers to be a lot more impressive, but we're talking about the premiere heroic tier power for rogues, so it's not trivial. One of two. The Pit Fiend is a challenge for two characters, being an elite monster. Two Pit Fiends will fight a...

26th level rogue vs. Smiley McFirePants

Wow... well, you gotta forgive an aging 1er for still thinking of +5 as the pinnacle of weapons. But +8 would make a lot more sense in that regard. Crimson Edge would hit 30% of the time, which ain't horrible given the advantage it gives, and we haven't seen any of the paragon or epic powers...

26th level rogue vs. Smiley McFirePants

Anyone compare the rogue to the pit fiend? The information is incomplete, but Mr. Burny is looking nastier and nastier all the time. 26th level rogue, started with 18 dex, now has 24, wielding a dagger +5, for a dex attack check of +26. A rogue who beats the Pit Fiend's initiative will swing...

WotC has a milking machine now (Draconomicon I)

That is, of course, your opinion, and you're entitled to it, even if the majority of other buyers don't share it. And all evidence points to the "don't share it" scenario, given the reviews it got. In fact, it got awfully far up the "best books of 3e" competition here, don't you think? With...

Classes ... Much Less Flexible than Advertised

In all honesty, how many rogues has everyone played in 3.x that didn't have Hide and Move Silently maxxed out? Sure, such characters exist, but they're in a rather small minority. In other words, for people that really want to play a Dwarven Trap Expert, the rogue is not the greatest fit. But...

    D&D 4E Is Intelligence 4e's dump stat?

The quote from R&C that gives characters a flat bonus to all trained skills relative to your int bonus seems like all that's needed to prevent int from becoming a dump stat. Conisder two level 4 rogues, both dex 16, one has int 8, one has int 14. smart rogue has a stealth bonus of 2 + 3 + 2 +...

Low Damage, High HP ... How is this "Faster"?

You're off, I believe. Think back to all the monsters we've seened- the ones with ability modifiers that add half their level. So your 25th level brute is actually doing 2d6 + 3 + 17, +5d6 sneak attack if possible. Suddenly daggers aren't sounding as too bad an option, as going from 2d4 +5d6...

Dragons of Glory! Flex your old 1st Edition Trivia Knowledge!!!!

My adolescent mind remembers that being one of the coolest friggin' games ever. I used to play that solitaire all the time.

    Has anyone seen this module?

Probably one of my favorite cover arts for "old" 1e modules (the style exemplified by C2, as opposed to, say, Pharaoh. Also, my least favorite of all of TSR's "old" 1e modules :-P

Eric Mona says the GSL is nearly ready

Hmm, I don't get why you think certain campaign settings wouldn't translate well. 4e is still old fashioned D&D, it just has streamlined rules that make it easier to run and play (at least, that's what the designers are aiming for). The two setting that you mentioned are actually two of the...

D&D 4E So, which class will end up being the -Zilla of 4e?

Uhmm... hopefully none of them? There's probably going to be a "strongest class," but I don't think it'd be unreasonable to hope that the power difference is hopefully more along the lines of wizard-to-sorcerer than cleric-to-fighter.
