    We already do this as well and have been for about two years. Frankly, it just makes more sense IMO. FWIW, we also make it an Attack action so you can combine it with Extra Attack or as an attack outside of your turn (if applicable).

    It isn't the quantity (number of spellcasters), but the setting itself (many high-level casters, powerful magic items and/or magical sites, etc.) that indicates a low-med-high magic game. Feel free to make your own judgement on a different standard, of course.

    It would have required about 8-10 checks IIRC, but given the PC's +10 modifier (5th level, expertise, DEX 18), an 11 or better (minimum 1 roll) beat the bullywugs passive perception of 10, so I never asked for a single roll. ;) While I get your point, I think you exaggerate a bit. ;) Depends...

    Agreed. Again, I need to point out the whole "no magic on a 1" is a current OPTION to discuss, try out, see how it works, etc. and play with. It might remain, it might get tossed out, it might get revised. I am aware of the potential pitfalls, but until I try it out, I won't know how it plays...

    FWIW, the above table is for full-casters only. Half-casters and third-casters have different progressions, so will be affected as well--they will definitely notice the difference. If true, then it will solve one problem for at least some years. ;)
