D&D General Stuff 5E Did Right

My favorite thing about 5E was baking Subclasses (and subraces/lineages/ancestries into the races/specieses). Class to Subclass allows for Classes to stay broad themes while subclasses holds the specializations. It made it so we could avoid the class bloat that 3E and 4E got, and allows for more...

D&D 5E (2024) Buffing Int, Wis, and Cha (Mostly Int and Cha)

I miss Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma having functions outside of their skills and saves (and magic for casters). In 3E, Int gave extra skill points and languages. This kept it from being dumped to the floor, or at least made you feel it if your character idea came with an 8 Int; I know I...

D&D General What would be a good half-elf feature that is combat focused?

In 4E, half-elves were able to learn 1 at-wills power from any class that they could use as an encounter power. While at-wills were largely equal, equivalent to 5E Cantrips if they got to add casting modifier to damage, it did boost their versatility. If I ever finish up my full house rule...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 PHB/DMG/MM art/layout: like or dislike?

I love most of the new art. I only have two complaints really, and they're just because they aren't my preference. 1) I don't like that all of the character art has very human faces. I assume they chose that art direction because it helps people project onto the characters more, but I...

D&D 5E (2024) Variant TWFing and changing Nick (sorry, Nicks)

I specifically have the offhand attacks not getting masteries (since I'm baking in nick). You need to spend a feat to get masteries on offhand.

D&D 5E (2024) Variant TWFing and changing Nick (sorry, Nicks)

Two-Weapon Fighting needs a boost/change because it still ends up being strong at low levels, fine at mid levels, and bad at high levels. This primarily affects fighters, with their 3rd and 4th attacks, and Dual Wielder kind of becomes a feat tax to boot. My version makes it so it's always...

WizKids Reveals Redesigned D&D Adult Black Dragon Miniature

Oh good, I wasn't able to find the announcement, but I thought it was 20 bucks less.

WizKids Reveals Redesigned D&D Adult Black Dragon Miniature

Yeah, there was an unpainted version announced too.

WizKids Reveals Redesigned D&D Adult Black Dragon Miniature

I have all 5 of the Metallics and Chromatics of the new designs, and the 4 gems that have been made (waiting on Amethyst). But I prefer the Lockwood designs, so I'm not intending on buying the new designs.

D&D 5E (2024) How many combats do you have on average adventuring day.

I generally set things up for 3 deadly fights a day, but sometimes one or more of those get replaced with 2 hard fights. I try to leave opportunity for a short rest after each deadly fight.

D&D 5E (2024) Fixing Savage Attacker and Great Weapon Fighting.

Part of me wants to bake ability increases into the level progression at multiples of 4 and then have feats given out (without the +1 ability score) at the current ASI levels. Feats are far more fun than ASIs, but they compete too hard.

D&D 5E (2024) Fixing Savage Attacker and Great Weapon Fighting.

So I'm not entirely sure Savage Attacker is a bad feat. At level 1-4, it's a decent boost. It won't scale with attacks like other damage feats, though, so maybe that's where it needs the help; just let it work on all weapon damage rolls.

D&D 5E (2024) Fixing Savage Attacker and Great Weapon Fighting.

Savage Attacker was a bad feat in 2014 and it's a bad feat in 2024. So how do we fix it? I remembered today that Savage Attacker in Baldur's Gate 3 has you roll twice for weapon damage rolls, take the highest, and I'm curious to see what that looks like. 2024 Savage Attacker let's you reroll...

Yeah, two scimitars is a Drizzt thing, not their only thing.

D&D General Elephants are cheaper than Warhorses

You know, you just reminded me of a weird creature I was designing; an elephant whose trunk has split in two and has pseudo hands at the end, kind of an elephant centaur but it's arms are trunks.

Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Player's Handbook Is Already Getting Errata

Every new player I've ever played with have said "can I roll history?", even after being asked to not worry about the mechanics and just say what they're doing, like "do I know anything about it?" This includes old players of previous editions and young players for whom 5E is their first and...

D&D 5E (2024) Variant TWFing and changing Nick (sorry, Nicks)

5.5 did a lot to make TWFing better, but it didn't go in the direction I wanted. So, here are my TWFing house rules that I've been using for a while, adjusted for 5.5. The change here is letting extra attack add off-hand attacks. 2d6+Mod great sword is equivalent to 1d6+Mod+1d6 from two...

    D&D 5E (2014) DM-Facing content to port into 5e from 3e/3.5+

I use so much of both the 3.5 and 4E DMGs. I actually find 5E to be the least "fun" for me from a DMing stand point, but I love it from a player and homebrewer position. From 3.5, I use the settlement design tables. I also use the entirety of the magic item pricing system, and am fiddling with...

D&D 5E (2024) Pact of the Chain broken at low levels?

Wasn't there a template version of Find Familiar in one of the playtests that could be up cast? Didn't we learn our lesson with the Conjure spells that monster stats are not designed for PCs? 20 HP for a level 1 familiar is nuts, but then it doesn't scale.

D&D 5E (2024) Agonizing Blast and Green Flame Blade

This is why I wish Agonizing Blast had been a feature like in A5E, and then it could be modified by the pacts.
