Clerics - What do you LIKE and DISLIKE?

Biggest Pro: A cleric can always be useful in combat, even for a beginning player who has no idea of how to use his abilities. He can always contribute meaningfully as a healer. Compare this to most arcane classes which require a better understanding of strategy in order to be an effective...

    Arcane Archivist?

That's a possibility, but it doesn't quite fit one of my somewhat unstated design goals for the class. I'm trying to make a new, more beginner-friendly arcane caster. First step was hopefully to convert the archivist to arcane (so that it becomes a bit more survivable, and gains some...

    Arcane Archivist?

I really like the Dark Knowledge ability of the Archivist from Heroes of Horror, but don't feel that the flavor fits a divine caster as well as an arcanist. What would people think of having an arcane Archivist instead? Are there any changes that would need to be made to maintain balance?

    Ptolus at Amazon?

I'll add my opinion to the fray. I don't go to my LGS to hang out. I go there to buy things occasionally, but usually not since they often charge more than list price, and the service isn't particularly great. In short, I feel no need to support them. Beyond that, I'm not a huge Ptolus fan...

    Ptolus at Amazon?

That's not contradictory to what he said. He said that the value of a book to you is the maximum price you would ever pay for it. Suppose I really love demons, and would pay $50 for a book about demons. In that case, FC1 is worth $50 to me, and I'm getting a great deal by paying less than I...

It's happening again!: DTRRPG.com is selling WotC books!

I don't buy that many books in general. The only ones I'll pay full price for are books that I am 100% certain will get used in my game. There's another tier of books that are good and interesting, but that I won't buy at full or near-full price because I'm not certain I'll be able to use...

So how long have YOU been playing D&D?

My first game was the 1994 "Dungeons and Dragons Classic Game", also known as the 17th printing of the basic set. My best friend and I played the old HeroQuest boardgame, and D&D was, for us, just a more elaborate version of it. After that, I didn't play again until I got into 3e around 2002...

Proper Pronunciation of all D&D words!

That's horrible, even by the fakey French phonology. If it were meant to be boo-LAY, it should be spelled "bulet." As written, it's boo-LET.

    Complete Psioinc...now we've had time...

Because it violates the entire point of having separate arcane/divine/psionic magic in the first place. Divine magic is power from the gods. Psionic power is power from within one's mind. Arcane power is power taken from elsewhere in the universe. A god might grant a spell that is normally...

    Complete Psioinc...now we've had time...

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I don't see how a god can give you the ability to cast arcane spells either. That is the most interesting explanation of it I've heard. Not totally convinced, but I can at least kind of see it.

    Complete Psioinc...now we've had time...

But then it wouldn't be psionic... it'd be divine energy, since it's coming from a divine source rather than from within. I don't see how that's any different than a normal cleric/paladin... Could you rephrase that? I don't understand what you mean.

    Complete Psioinc...now we've had time...

I'm curious as to how people justify the existance of the Divine Mind. The book itself seems to give very little in the way of justification for what a Divine Mind actually is. IMC, and I thought in psionics in general, psionics is born of the internal power of a sentient mind. I don't see...

That won't last. Sooner, rather than later, Google's webcrawlers will notice that the pages have changed and will replace the caches with what's there now. The caches are only temporary.

Actually, I just had another idea. If you'd like, I'd be willing to donate one of my machines to run the logs offline. That is, we could transfer the backup and the logs to the machine, restore the backup, replay the logs, make a new backup, and then restore that new backup onto the ENWorld...
