Divine Metamagic Feat

Exactly. Not to mention that the DM does tons more work to keep the game running than the players do. Not that the work is a problem - that's just the job of the DM. But he who does the work makes the rules. IMC, we had to make a decision reguarding a player who's style differed from the...

    Divine Metamagic Feat

Well first, doing something you normally couldn't and doing something that seriously abuses the rules are two different beasts. Exceeding the normal spell limit with metamagic feats can be very unbalancing - and since I don't want to go through the book spell by spell sorting which spells are...

    Epic DR help!

In my game, there's a bit of a question on DR x/epic. Does this mean you need a weapon of +6 or more to beat the DR, or that you only need a character who's level is 21st or more? Thanks!

    Divine Metamagic Feat

Yep, and that's why I fixed those rods for my game. And eliminated everything from The Complete(ly Twinked) Warrior and Divine. :) I've found that for my game, staying as close to Core as possible is best. I like to keep the focus on the world, story, and the character's in-game persona -...

    Vow of Poverty: Power Analysis

Bah, the person who did that fudged numerous times and artifically inflated the costs. For example, they priced all the feats at 10,000 gp. Anyone who actually plays a VoP will quickly (and by that I mean after the third feat or so) run out of useful Exalted feats. In the game I DM, I...

What are you best at in an RPG?

I'd like to think my talents fall into the "making a living world with a rich story" area. Oh, and also I'm good at using my "NO" stick to beat the whining min-maxers. Just last week a (now former) player in my game begged for 15 minutes for me to give him (and just him!) Fast Healing 10 +...

My game has become "me vs. them"

My campaign just moved into epic levels, and as the levels ramped up, I initially found challenging 18th+ level characters difficult. I've found the CR system begins to break down around 16th or so. When my party was 20th level, they fought against some slaad: a death slaad/sorcerer (CR20) 2...

    Anyone successfully played a non-humanoid in D20?

I played a young centaur druid in a campaign. It was lots of fun - and being a druid allowed me to overcome enormous adversity - like stairs and ladders. The druid abilities allowed me also to interact with human society in an unobtrusive way, so perhaps I was cheating somewhat. It was fun...

SJ Games to DRM: "Not on our PDFs!"

SJ Games is working on an online store to sell their product in PDF form ( http://e23.sjgames.com/ ). In the latest Daily Illuminator Steve mentions the DRM firestorm going on here, and other boards: - see the rest here: ( http://www.sjgames.com/ill/ ) Hmm. It looks like WW is likely going it...

Update: Malhavoc PDFs no longer available at RPGnow (merged)

Again, breaking the DRM is not illegal. It's not. You can do it, I can do it, he/she/it can do it. Whenever, wherever, and however you like. You can do it with a shoe, you can do it with a canoe. You can do it in a house, you can do it in... Alright, I'm getting carried away. :) What...

Update: Malhavoc PDFs no longer available at RPGnow (merged)

Not to mention that breaking the copy-protection isn't a violation of the DMCA - sharing that broken file would be. That's why sites that contain software cracks are not shut down by the government. The smart ones state that you must agree to use the cracks on products you legally purchased...

    easy question, concentration checks

Regardless of initative orders or the like, the rules are clear. While you may prefer a multiple check system, that isn't the way it was designed. Under your theory, how would you handle the mage who suffers from 2 AoOs, and is on fire, and suffering from acid? Would you make him take 4...

    easy question, concentration checks

Which is exactly why I concluded the rules say you only make one check. Read the SRD: It only refers to "if you take damage" you make a check, not "for each occurance of damage make another check". There is no provision in the rules for multiple sources of damage -...

    easy question, concentration checks

That can be read two ways, seemingly. 1) Attempt to cast spell. Draw AoOs. Take damage (from all sources) and then make con check. Reason: The rule just says "If while trying to cast a spell you take damage" not "per attack" or anything that would denote mulitiple checks for multiple damage...

    Evocative Combat

As a DM, I too have tried to inject good descriptions into combat dialogue. As I was reading this thread, I had an idea. What if you had a few tables, numbered 1-20, with short "weapon strike" descriptions? One table for each weapon type (slashing, piercing, etc.) and one for the death blow...

Do the enhancment bonuses from a bow and from an arrow stack?

If I recall correctly (I'm at work) the Flaming Burst property already includes the regular Flaming property. It just adds a 1d10 to critical damage. Also, a single action can activate all the properties on a weapon at the same time.

Hide in shadows/Hide in Plain sight

I suppose here's what I really had a problem with. Because of the whole shadow debate, and the fact that my player claimed that there was always a shadow somewhere he basically read Hide in Plain Sight as: "Permanant Improved Invisiblity" and the whole jumping thing as: "Permanant Dimension...

Psionics -- why do people bother?

Dear sir, I believe you totally missed the point of my post... I never said it was proven or disproven - only that it was scientifically researched. You can't deny that it hasn't been looked into. My point is that since it has been investigated from a scientific viewpoint, the "feel" of...

Psionics -- why do people bother?

Not necessarily... I suppose the reason many people think psionics feel "scientific" is because of the association of the science and research done in that field. Psionics have a "scientific" background - the power of the mind, the traditional "90% of our brains we don't use", and that there...

Psionics -- why do people bother?

I do not use psionics in my game either... I suppose it's because I prefer the western Europe / Tolkien style of fantasy. Psionics don't really "feel" right to me in those settings. Were I to run Dark Sun though... In that setting they made perfect sense. It's all about style, man!
