    Red Tails

You mean like a propaganda film for the black airmen of that era? That's an interesting idea. If that's the way it works. I'm gonna see it either way because I'm a big Air Force/Air Corp buff, of that era especially, and since my children are half-black I think it'll be nice for them. But I...

D&D 5E (2014) The Classes and Races of my 5E Game - What will be yours?

By the way, I guess I should say that I'm also interested in this question for this thread: "Are you going to use 5E to modify your current game-world, setting, or milieu, or are you going to use 5E to develop an entirely new game-world, setting/milieu?" How do you suspect you're going to use it?

D&D 5E (2014) The Classes and Races of my 5E Game - What will be yours?

I find that an interesting approach for a milieu, especially the scholar and expert classes. The Human Wizard is a combination of Scholar and Expert (tending towards being a proto-scientist and inventor) in my setting, though they usually have a lot of allies, such as Sages who assist with...

D&D 5E (2014) The Classes and Races of my 5E Game - What will be yours?

I have already decided, based upon the likely speculation about 5E Classes and Races which of these will be used in my game and setting. If 5E introduces new classes and races I find interesting I may introduce those things as well. If you would like to post on what races and classes you...

    It's not just your father's D&D

I thoroughly enjoyed that short article nedjer and think that the points addressed are actually much better Game Design Principles for a game with an undetermined or non-determined (or unable to be pre-determined) outcome, such as you find with RPGs and ARGs. (Or even highly modifiable video...

    The Cross-Fertilizing Party

What follows below is part of a response I made in the Return of the Sneaking Man. It is something I had meant to address before regarding Classes and the way I'd like to see them operate (more or less - no matter how they actually operate I'll modify this for my own milieu) in 5E. It is I...

The Return of the Sneaking Man

Concur. I think that is one of the better design features of later versions of the game. I still think that Classes can be much better designed than later versions of the game to be far more individualized, and to be far more potent at what they do (as in earlier game-Class versions), versus all...

The Return of the Sneaking Man

I don't have time to reply in detail to everything everyone has asked that I was saying about this by starting this thread, a lot more people replied than I thought would, but let me say this for my part: I am definitely with those who want to see the return of the Thief. I think the Thief is...

An Absolutely Superb Day, a Wargame, and a new Whiteboard

Man, Burds gave a great lecture summary on Greek Fire too.

An Absolutely Superb Day, a Wargame, and a new Whiteboard

I had to go into town today to pay some bills and taxes. While out the sky was clear and the weather warm and bright. (Yesterday, even though it was overcast I went outside and maintenanced the cars without a shirt on, and was perfectly comfortable doing it, so warm was the weather - and if...

007, World's Second Oldest Profession, and the Secret War

I'm not absolutely sure EM, but I was once told it also has something to do with working undercover(s). That's the scuttlebutt anyways.

007, World's Second Oldest Profession, and the Secret War

Today the family and I went to the library. I was really there just renewing stuff, but decided to look around anyhow. On the new book shelf I saw Carte Blanche: 007. Now I've never been a big fan of the James Bond character, not as presented by Ian Fleming. Buddies of mine used to try...

The Return of the Sneaking Man

Thanks, we appreciate that. The bad news is it will require surgery, because of the size of the tumor, and because it is causing her pain and discomfort. The good news is that it is a totally benign, non-cancerous tumor. Aside from the discomfort, you can't ask for better than that. Still a lot...

The Return of the Sneaking Man

Just wanted to say that I can't respond to much of anything right now. The wife is having medical testing this week so we're gonna be busy with that. Appreciate the comments, not ignoring them, but busy at more important things right now. Back when I can. Jack.

The Return of the Sneaking Man

I thought it was the Rogue's Galleria, and that they outbid the Thieve's Guild by blackmailing the Barons. Come to think of it though Thieves should be good at blackmail too. So it had to be more than that.

The Return of the Sneaking Man

Interesting ideas about actual applications. If a thief were placed in infiltration command of a party he might arrange an approach, an escape, or a concealed surveillance in such a way as to give the other party members real stealth and/or camouflage/disguise advantages. Also I think a thief...

The Lone Wolf and the Small Team

No, I wouldn't want to see the game built around it, but I would like to see it built into the game. I think henchmen are very, very helpful to Lone Adventurers (as are friendly NPCs, hirelings, allies, etc) in certain situations. In some situations they are your best shot at survival.

The Return of the Sneaking Man

I think that's a good observation. A good theory, but a poor workman. Concur. With that kind of work there are many gradations of success and failure.

The Return of the Sneaking Man

One thing I'd really, really like to see in 5th Edition is the return of the Thief. The Rogue was to me an interesting NPC Class concept, but it was far too ambiguous and ineffective a character class, in my opinion, as either a Team Member, or as a Lone Operative. I am hopeful that 5E...

    How Girls and Boys Play

This observation, based on what is said before and after, is obviously assumptive on 3 levels. I've never seen a boy build anything that he didn't attach a story to it. He might finish it first and then build the story, or, as has been my usual observation, have the story first in mind and...
