Folks, keep it civil, please. There's no need for edition wars or fighting in general - this is just an internet forum about pretending to be an elf. So let's relax and try to have some fun.
This thread has some civility issues. Name-calling and other personal attacks don't belong on these boards. Always attack the argument - not the person behind it. Also, there's way too much snarking at your fellow posters going on in this thread.

Hey, take it easy - this is just an internet forum about pretending to be an elf. It's fine if you don't want to continue a given discussion - but handle it with civility, please.
This thread has some civility issues. Folks, please aim at arguments about the topic at hand - and not at your fellow posters (including their perceived posting style, supposed mindset, etc.), please.
Don't accuse your fellow posters of trolling, please. If you're wrong, you insulted an innocent poster. If you're right, you gave the troll what he wants - attention. So either way, nothing good comes of it.
Keep it civil, please. This is just an internet forum for games about pretending to be an elf. One-true-wayism and aiming for the poster instead of the post are inappropriate.
No edition warring on these boards, please. It's fine to express that you prefer the 2e Ranger to the 3.0 Ranger or 5e point-buy to 3.x point-buy or some such, but casually slamming an entire edition is just going to spark fights.
