Chess is not an RPG: The Illusion of Game Balance

I got as far as "D&D isn't a roleplaying game because you can play it successfully without roleplaying, but Vampire and Call of Cthulhu are true roleplaying games because if you play without roleplaying you're doing it wrong."

    D&D 5E Screenshot Hero Lab 5e (Non-Official, Homebrew)

This is great stuff. It may sound silly, but something like this would be enough to get me to "take the plunge" and try out the game. However, I fully expect WotC to spend more time and money making the tools they want to make, rather than the tools their players want to use.

Conclusion to the Living Forgotten Realms Campaign

Sorry for the Necro, but didn't really feel this deserved a brand new thread. I see the Winter Fantasy scenarios have gone up, as well as ALL of the Battle Interactives (Yay!). But Origins has come and gone and no word on when any of those will be available (Unless you count May/June 2014 as...

Pathfinder 1E Fireball and Improved Cover

Since you're aiming at something pea-sized flying at you at about 100ft/second, it would have to be Diminutive at the easiest. I'd probably house rule a special size category smaller than that. But why would you ready specifically to shoot the fireball seed and not just ready to shoot the caster?

    Night Below??

THIS is a link to a 3.0 conversion from the old conversion library. Wow. Holy Necropost. Please disregard. Or better yet, fix the "similar mod" suggestions to not show posts from ten years ago.

    D&D 3E/3.5 CONVERTING MODULES to 3.0/3.5

No, I don't think a user that hasn't logged on in 8 YEARS is going to be willing to do any more conversions. You could try looking HERE or, you know, Google.

    What Lurks Below Daggerdale

Wow. So much has happened in game I don't know if I'll ever be able to catch this up. I'll post again when I decide what to do...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Severing limbs in combat - 3.0 & 3.5

There's nothing stopping the players from designing their characters around using your method to sunder the opponent's head. Other than DM fiat, there is no reason for it to be within the rules to cut off an arm, but not a head. I would soak an AoO to be able to kill the opponent 75% faster. I...

Do characters know their class level?

Magic is the easy part. It doesn't take (too much) metagame knowledge to walk up to Magic Mart and say "I need a scroll that will let me cast a missile, unerringly, at up to three separate creatures." or "I need a potion that will surround me with armor of force, for at least six hours." The...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Anoter 3.5 Barbarian question

Agree 100%, but if dying from losing your Rage hp is a common occurrence with your DM it might be worth it.

    Favorite PHB Race!

For 3.x, my favorite is Dwarf. They're sturdy and survivable in the low levels, start with Darkvision, and actually make pretty good Rogues IMO. For Pathfinder, Half-Orc. I don't know what they were smoking when they 'rebalanced' the races, but Half-orcs now make the best mages.

    D&D 3E/3.5 Anoter 3.5 Barbarian question

IIRC, it's a Morale bonus, which makes perfect sense. Basically, when the Barbarian is in his rage he is either too focused or just too far gone to be affected by silly things like fear or magical compulsions. Besides, as has been pointed out, adrenaline doesn't go away just because you go into...

    Slings are... wow, really?

50' still seems a little short on the war sling. Maybe up it to 75'. Do slings not get iterative attacks? I always played that they did. A sling bullet can't be any slower to pull and load than an arrow.

    What Lurks Below Daggerdale

"What have you done, you fool!" the man now known as Carlanis snarls and strains to break his bonds. "Important to you? Oh, I'm so sorry. Maybe now you will be more cooperative." says Briarwyn as she finishes pouring out the awful, fishy liquid into the hole she dug. "Tell us the name of the...

    What Lurks Below Daggerdale

The 19th day of the Claw of Sunset "Those Goblins had the markings of a Zhent patrol" grumbles Roryn. "What are they doing this far south?" "I am not knowing this answer. Glad that these did not fight us while we were with the wagons." Nale shakes his head, remembering the caravan driver who...

    What Lurks Below Daggerdale

The beginning: It was a beautiful warm day, the 16th day of the Claw of Sunsets, and Briarwyn couldn't help but be outside enjoying it. She didn't much care for the bustle of the city, but she had to learn the way of humans and Tilverton seemed to be the best place to start. It was a horrid...

    What Lurks Below Daggerdale

This is meant to be a storied version of the events and adventures in a small game I am running for my family, but I reserve poetic license. I am going to experiment with the style throughout the thread, so my apologies in advance if it becomes confusing. Also, this is a high power (for their...

    Quarterstaff?

In my group we have 3 quarterstaves. The Druid uses hers as the staff she uses with Shillelagh, the Monk has a staff just because, and the Soulknife has a staff for when he's trying to avoid notice. They rock.

    D&D 3E/3.5 City of the Spider Queen 3.5 ?

When someone says "No Spoilers" they probably don't want you to mention the Balor. It really isn't terribly important to convert every little thing, like you would a 2E module. It may feel a little clunky, but most stuff can be run as-is. If he can't find a conversion for something, he can...
