D&D 5E [GUIDE] Stealth, Hiding and You!

I put a direct link in the OP's Light and Darkness section 5 which leads to the top of this page so that people can see the images and explanations associated.

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Stealth, Hiding and You!

@schnee I would say that targeting is not a problem if the target is standing like in the second image. But that falls under DM fiat and the circumstances of the situation. I can't give you a 100% yes every time kind of thing. But this should looked at with natural darkness in mind. Magic...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Stealth, Hiding and You!

Well that's where passive perception / an active perception check comes in. There's also DM fiat of course involved. But here's another example: So if you have someone standing in darkness like that, even in 5e I would argue they are visible and not hidden. Especially post errata. That's...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Stealth, Hiding and You!

I was talking about natural darkness and not spells or magic in general. Those have rules of their own which are usually detailed in the spell entry itself. However, you have it reversed. Someone standing in darkness, magical or not, can see out of it fine unless the darkness/spell/magic in...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Stealth, Hiding and You!

The image in question was a hallway with various sections of obscurement and light. think of it this way: DLDLDLD D= darkness and L= light. In the rules before the errata, you wouldn't be able to see beyond the first Darkness patch. It would stop you from seeing any light beyond it, the...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Stealth, Hiding and You!

From my understanding Stealth would lose even though it is the active roll. That is the way it worked in previous editions of the game and the way 5e seems to function.

D&D 5E Is the Healer Feat Broken?

The main focus of playing 5e should be to buff defenses, saving throws, give temporary HP, etc.. instead of giving healing in general. Being Proactive vs Reactive respectively.

Sage Advice: Sneak Attacks, Breath Weapons, and Magic Weapons

Fair enough but I feel that the context or the way it's being described is incorrect within the discussion of the thread, which is what I was trying to resolve. Apparently I didn't do a good job of it though hehe.

Sage Advice: Sneak Attacks, Breath Weapons, and Magic Weapons

That's because thrown weapons have their own rules. The question wasn't about thrown melee weapons until you just brought it up. It was about making melee weapon attacks with Ranged Weapons and vice versa. Which isn't possible outside of Improvised Attacks. You're shifting the goal posts of...

Sage Advice: Sneak Attacks, Breath Weapons, and Magic Weapons

You can't. The only way to make a Melee Weapon Attack with a Ranged Weapon is to make an Improvised Melee Attack. The same goes for making a Ranged Weapon Attack with a Melee Weapon. There seems to be some confusion as to what the words (or rather keywords as established in 5e) mean...

D&D 5E Fallen Paladin of torm redemption help

Well if he gives you grief about the contract after you explain what I suggested (if that's what you do), ask him what the goal of tricking the lord (and you) was? Is it that he wants to RP his Paladin having Torm become displeased with him (and explain what torm expects from his followers)...

D&D 5E Fallen Paladin of torm redemption help

I would just admit that the group got me and say the following if the group was being serious and actually expecting the contract to be honored. "Ok guys you got me with the contract. I was busy running the game so I didn't notice the change to PP. That being said, there's no way the NPC...

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

I am slighted sir/madam by your tarnishing of my fair reputation upon these boards! Know that I shall meet thee at sunrise upon the hill at Fort Fred on the overmorrow of the celebration of Easter. There we shall resolve our differences with pistols at dawn!

Well to be fair, the group was screwed out of multiple items and/or gold :p But fair enough. I understand where you're coming from.

And if that's really the most ridiculous thing you've seen written on these forums then you need to get out more.
