D&D 5E Which parts of D&D came from Tolkien?

Without skimming the entire epic thread: "dungeons"? Was a "dungeon" a subterranean treasure reality show before Bilbo went to goblin town and Erebor? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

Yeah, I don't know. It seems an obvious leap given that typical fantasy characters are kinda super heroes in some senses. I've never played Champions but I grabbed the villains books for the inspiration. I'd never chew through that much rule system. Anyone like / heard of Valiant Universe RPG...

    D&D 5E Hit points explained

Hit Points are the number of models to remove from a unit on the tabletop based on an enemy unit's attack (dividing through for multi hit models). It's just now there are 1 model units and the models are optional. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

D&D 5E Are You Planning on Subscribing to D&D Beyond

I have three initiative trackers too: I make my players do it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

D&D 5E Are You Planning on Subscribing to D&D Beyond

I just use bookmarks and the index... I used to write things down but discovered that I can track HP in my head... if I want to play video games, I'll do that :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

D&D 5E Are You Planning on Subscribing to D&D Beyond

No absolute way. For me DnD means pencil and paper. Online gaming is something quintessentially different. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

D&D 5E Why does WotC put obviously bad or illogical elements in their adventures?

Awesome! Yeah, the place is an unreachable underwater lair. Why do you need guards at all? Wargaming (historical) is arguably mostly logical and consistent within very narrow limits. As soon as they tacked on magic and/or the vagaries of trying play individual characters you are in a no persons...

D&D 5E 3 Years Later: D&D's total Domination on Amazon (and Earth in General)

The latest development "Hascon" doesn't exactly fill you with confidence that Hasbro gets fan culture...! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

D&D 5E 3 Years Later: D&D's total Domination on Amazon (and Earth in General)

Like book stores, games stores need to do some very fast catching up to stay afloat with the Grey Goo trying to digest them. They have options though, they're just hard to see when you're slogging away in the trenches trying to turn a buck. If fans would unite they could save a bunch of FLGS...

D&D 5E The classes that nobody wants to play

What's a "morale check"? Is that a DMG thing? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

D&D 5E Why does WotC put obviously bad or illogical elements in their adventures?

A bit of proofreading surely wouldn't be all that hard, especially if the proofreader were also a plattester who gets a chance to run through the whole thing once or twice to understand kind of what the author is aiming at. I really don't see silliness as a bad thing. Listen to the tome show...

D&D 5E Why does WotC put obviously bad or illogical elements in their adventures?

I won't defend WotC's stuff, partly because that's been done enough and partly because it's a matter of taste in part. I see the point that the noble art of Game Design may disapprove in 1000 ways too. Recently I've actually gotten deeper into DMing and really appreciated having source material...

D&D 5E How do players know they are in the "wrong" location in a sandbox campaign?

Yes, this. Try roleplaying their characters for them a bit... "you remember from your childhood / monk academy / old books that these creatures are merciless killers... what do you do?" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

D&D 5E How do players know they are in the "wrong" location in a sandbox campaign?

Provide side quests! And get NPCs into the party ASAP to help put storytelling into all aspects of the game. Another possibility is just layer Storm Kings Thunder on top. That has piles of totally unconnected storylines and encounters, readymade NPCs etc you can you just throw in without too...

D&D 5E The classes that nobody wants to play

I still have no idea why cleric is not the most popular class. In 5e especially where you have both toughs and a wide range of spells. Plus as the one holding the hit point purse strings under some circumstances, why not call the shots? Follow me or no free heals? Sent from my iPhone using...

Tales From The Yawning Portal - 7 Classic Dungeons Updated To 5E!

That would heck danged awesome. AweXsome indeed. As things stand I am pretty liking the Yawning vibe so far. My home game just suffered a surprise reboot down to first level and we are now in the jail of Castle Naerytar... ...now reading up on the older versions of this place and comparing...
