Is Coup de Grace an evil act?

You're fighting the most powerful, evilest sorceror in the world. You know you have absolutely no chance -- you're a relatively inexperienced wizard who just cast his first fireball yesterday, and this sorceror has been slamming your town with meteor swarms left and right for the past month. You...

What WotC D&D books do you own?

My favorite is the Player's Handbook. I could run the game with nothing else (heck, even the DMG I don't look in more than once every two sessions). --Sam L-L

What does the paladin do when...

Start by asking the sorceror: "Why? WHY do you want to do this?" With the help of my Diplomacy +60 and some good roleplaying, I tell him in a pained voice all the endearing facts about my child's upbringing and all the reasons I love my wife, in a heartfelt attempt to convince him he shouldn't...

    Near-Epic Skill Results

You remember things like in The Two Towers, when Aragorn put his ear to the ground and heard a band of thirty orcs a day's travel away? That's epic skill use right there. --Sam L-L

I saw THE CORE! [not completely OT]

No offense, my man, but a bunch of us students at Caltech saw the trailer and we just couldn't stop laughing. Maybe the movie just isn't aimed at us, because I'm pretty sure there's no way we could take it seriously. Anyways, if you're writing a screenplay for Asimov's Foundation, that's...

Are D&D rulebooks stuck in the 70's?

We have about 1 combat every 2 sessions, and make a lot of skill rolls. But on the other hand, the players seem to care a lot about carrying their weight in a fight, too. I think it's balanced as is. --Sam L-L

Declare a Race and Class, then Roll!

Zombie Bard Str 12 Dex 5 Con - Int - Wis 13 Cha 1 Braaaaiiiins, as he is known by his associates, went into show business with dreams of being a star, but for some reason, nobody comes to his shows. Could it be the way he trips and falls off the stage, he wonders? --Sam L-L

Why Does spell Reasearch Have Such a High Cost?

Um, are you aware that the point of the game is for the players as well as the GM to have fun? Just checking ;) I figure if the players are involved enough to want to come up with new spells or feats, that's great! It shows they're having fun and that they're personalizing and role-playing...

    Races of Faerun feat question

Uh...so do you guys who carped at the original poster have a problem with Smetzger's periodic "rank this feat" polls? He says what the feats do to remind us so we can vote on them....should WotC sue him for all he's worth? --Sam L-L

    D&D 3E/3.5 [semi-OT] [semi-3.5] What is "Cold Iron?"

I was somehow under the impression (possibly from the RPG Castle Falkenstein) that Cold Iron was iron extracted from fallen meteors. It seems more epic fantasy that way to me, but I might be totally wrong :) --Sam L-L

13.33 encounters to rise a level?

We have ~3 hour sessions and average one actual fight every 2 or 3 sessions. As regards experience, I tend to arbitrarily give them enough XP to level every 2 sessions or so, so that they have a chance of hitting the high levels by the time the campaign is over... --Sam L-L

    Multiclassing and Skill Points

I was confused on this too, but got my question answered here at EN World ;) The answer is that if a skill is a class skill for any of your classes, it is a class skill for the purposes of maximum ranks. If it is cross-class for all of your classes, it is cross-class for the purposes of maximum...

Sunless Citadel question: opening a can of wyrms..spoilers)

A note of dissension -- The point of D&D is to have fun, right? If your players have gotten it into their heads that it would be really fun to have a pet dragon, then why not let them? Of course you shouldn't make it easy! Feel free for it to start evil and trying to bite them all, munching...

    Making an invisible Prismatic Wall

You could make a point of regularly dropping illusions of prismatic walls. Then, one day, when your foes are used to this trick, drop a real one. Not really an answer to your question, but maybe still an idea... --Sam L-L
