help me brainstorm for backstory ideas

Okay, so here's what I'm looking at: Sonja grew up in an area rich in portal to other planes. It wasn't terribly unusual for an occasional outsider to come in and attack one of the villages in the area. In most cases, they weren't overly powerful and the villagers would manage to drive them...

Humor: Other People's Arms as Weapons?

What if said arm is covered with metal (say, full plate)? Surely it'd do more damage then?

    Wizards Stealing Weapons

Or possibily Telekinesis as well. Hehe. Stormhur the fighter raised his sword, holding it in both hands at the ready. He had just finished dropping that annoying fighter from that band of adventurers that had been hounding him. His cohorts were keeping the others occupied. With an evil...

    Wizards Stealing Weapons

It's a nice thought, though. Obviously it would work better against a greatsword. Or suppose the Wizard were using the staff instead of a dagger. The staff is a large weapon, so no +12 for size difference. That would give a definite edge towards the wizard. Of course, the wizard could always...

help me brainstorm for backstory ideas

Hmm, I like the idea about growing up in an area rich with portals. But rather than protector, let's say that her powers were unlocked by a being from Archos (or whatever the good aligned plane is) as a gift for helping them at risk to herself. Perhaps she freed said being from someone who...

help me brainstorm for backstory ideas

Our group is starting an epic campaign, so we're starting at level 20. I had a Ftr1/Wiz17/Bladesinger2 character, but I really wasn't feeling it, so my DM is letting me create a new character. I need some ideas for a backstory for her. Dunno why, I just keep thinking of this character as a...

Does this weapon enhancement seem balanced?

This was an idea that I came up in a discussion about a +1 lawful, chotic, holy, evil sword. I suggested this as an alternative enchantment for characters of neutral attitude.

Fantasy characters in Modern London? (wasn't there a module?...)

Unfortunately, that's 2E to 3E and an adventure in Dragon #100 is probably going to be 1E I would imagine.

    [OT] Black Holes Merge--Universe "wobbles"

Realistically it ISN'T that much. The moon and sun have a far greater effect on the earth than that. There might be a slight increase in vulcanism and earthquakes at worst. Probably nothing significant though.

Fantasy characters in Modern London? (wasn't there a module?...)

Someone needs to convert this Mace of St Cuthbert to 3E. I'd do it myself, but I'm not aware of any 1E->3E conversion guides and don't know enough about 1E to even begin to do it myself. I do have the Dragon archive around somewhere. Anyone wanna volunteer? Or has it been done somewhere already?

Just how specific with a Ready action?

I agree that (to an extent) the more general the better. For instance, "I will wait here and attack the first enemy that comes through the door." "I will watch for anyone trying to cast a spell at us and attempt to counterspell it." "If one of them makes a hostile move, I shoot him with my...

Fantasy characters in Modern London? (wasn't there a module?...)

This sounds like a lot of fun. Anyone feel up to converting it into a 3E adventure? I'd love to give running it a shot, but I don't have nearly enough DMing experience to even think about converting it. Not to mention that I never played 1E either.

Dead in a Blade Barrier, what happens to the stuff?

Well, I've also emailed the sage, but I don't know if he's going to respond or not. However, the response from Matt DOES seem to fit with the rules pretty well. From their response, my understanding is that the spell itself doesn't do the damage. The spell conjures the blades and the blades...

Dead in a Blade Barrier, what happens to the stuff?

Okay, I think I can end this debate right now. I emailed Wizards customer service. Here's a copy of the email:

    Alternate Names for Spells

Hmm, in one of my former campaigns (same one that we had two guys in a rowboat sink a troop ship with nothing but bows), we had a unique name for fireball. "Flaming Death!" a la A Bug's Life. It started as a joke and just took on a life of his own. So whenever our warmage wanted to cast it...

Demons & Devils - the difference?

The abyss is full of anarchy. Demons doing what the please without regard for any others, fighting each other, stabbing each other in the back if they DO try to fight a common enemy, etc. Hell is full of bureaucrats and politicians. If you want to get anything done in Hell, you've got to have...

any good multiclass/PRCs for a high level sorc?

Nah, we've got a cleric. And there's certainly enough Arcane spells to mess with for a sorcerous character that I shouldn't be using my limited spell list for others as well. If I was a wizard, perhaps, it would be good.
