Those who read Conan know that the stories are set at 15,000 to 12,000 B.C. and Kull's tales take place from either 100,000 B.C. or 20,000 B.C. (Kull's timeline is a point of conjecture), in which huge cities do exist and more technology (crossbows, steel weapons, etc).

Suspending disbelief is part of enjoying a good story, regardless of its elements.

True, but the title of the film is 10,000 BC. It kind of screams the exact date in your face, whereas Conan exists in the semi-mythical days of the Hyborean Age.

So what? Lets see that makes 300 part 4 by now? Was really unimpressed with the preview. I was really hoping for something more. Something interesting. Not a historical piece but something that pretended it was 10000 bc. I was hoping the cavemen didn't speak to each other, still smart, but no real dicernable language. Was hoping for less organization.

I hope it's got some flavor. It sounds a lot like our Frostburn campaign..except all the main characters in the movie probably won't be eaten up by a smilodon in the first battle;)

It will be centuries before another woman that hot comes along.

Oh, I don't know. There are a lot of women I would like to see in a fur bikini... Beyonce Knowles, Christina Aguilera, Anna Kournikova, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Alba, Halle Berry, Eve, Ashanti, Kelly Rowland...

(Ahem)

Kylie Minogue, Eva Mendes, Rosario Dawson...

(Ahem)

Sorry. I got off track. The movie looks like pretty-pretty old school pulp fun flick. I just hope Roland doesn't have some message. The messages in his movies are as subtle as Godzilla and demolish the film the way the big lizard demolishes the city.

I'd imagine humans had full language by 10,000 BC. No one knows exactly how far back language goes, but 12,000 years ago isn't implausible. Elements of culture have been discovered that date back about 40,000 years ago or so, and it's not unlikely language would date back that far as well too.

Anyway, I saw a commercial for this the other night and it looks cool. Probably not accuraute, but so what? Great for a pulp-type film, maybe like The Scorpion King, but more serious.
