100-foot Ocean Waves Confirmed

Giant Waves tall enough to smash ships have been reported for ages and dismissed as sailor fantasy. They are apparently not only real, they're a lot more common than had previously been thought.

I just thought it was cool that for once we were able to confirm something does happen instead of being able to debunk it. We've had satillite tech for decades and only now do we confirm what has been reported for a long, long time. Gives me hope for Nessies, yet. :)

I wonder if the conditions that create these waves migth prove to be more common in the "Bermuda Triangle" area? Might explain some of the disappearances.

[Cue Leonard Nimoy: "In Search of...Big-a :) :) waves"

Did anyone else notice the end of the article stated that over 200 ships of 650'+ in length have been lost at sea over the past twenty years?

That is real close to one a month.

As a member of the Illustrious Order of Shellbacks (who crossed the line in a ship only 600' long), that scares the bejebers out of me!

Be sure to think spooooooooooky thoughts on the next crossing, Kreig. :] :p
LOL only did a single West Pac in '92, not something I am likely to do again.

It wasn't mentioned in the article, but I would be willing to bet that virtually all of said rogue waves were sighted in the Pacific. I seriously doubt it's a phenomenom likely to occur in the Atlantic.

You go chance the Bermuda Triangle in a leaky rowboat right now! :]
LOL I've dived off of Bermuda many times.

It has some of the heaviest sea traffic in the world. There are going to be a lot of wrecks!
