13th Level Monster Conversions

This is a very good point. I actually debated that some myself, but went with the 'standard' enhanced crit in 4e- just more damage. But you certainly have a point!

Discussion?

I don't have my books here at work but isn't there an option (power? magic? feat? weapon?) for increasing crit range?

Paragon feats do it. So do a few class abilities and PP abilities. It's not that I'm not open to the idea; just interested in hearing any positive and negative points people might have that I could be overlooking.

Gotta go back to work myself now! :)

ELEMENTAL, CINDER SWARM--- Level 13 Skirmisher
Large elemental animate (fire)--- XP 800
---
Initiative +14; Senses Perception +8
Burning Cinders (fire) aura 2; any creature in the aura at the start of the cinder swarm’s turn is attacked: +14 vs. Reflex; 2d6 fire damage.
HP 131; Bloodied 65
AC 27; Fortitude 25; Reflex 27; Will 23
Resist fire 20; Vulnerable cold 10
Speed fly 6 (hover); maximum altitude 1
---
[Melee basic] Burn (standard; at will) Fire: +16 vs. Reflex; 1d12+4 fire damage plus ongoing 5 fire.

[Melee] Shroud of Cinders (standard; at will) Fire: The cinder swarm shifts 4. It can pass through or end its turn in spaces occupied by other creatures. Each creature whose space it enters is attacked: +14 vs. Reflex; 1d10+6 fire damage and target is slowed (save ends). If the cinder swarm ends its turn in another creature’s space, it may repeat this attack on it as a free action at the start of the cinder swarm’s next turn.
---
Alignment unaligned; Languages Primordial
Str 4; Dex 23; Wis 15
Con 19; Int 4; Cha 9

Two questions.

1) Is the Cinder Swarm a swarm monster, or just a monster that's called a Cinder Swarm? Because if it's a swarm, it needs vulnerabiltiy to area and close attacks.

2)
If the cinder swarm ends its turn in another creature’s space, it may repeat this attack on it as a free action at the start of the cinder swarm’s next turn.

Is this free attack in addition to the aura attack?

Well, many of the monsters I have listed at this level either have been or are about to be released in official products now...

I count behir, charnel hound and cinder swarm, at least...

I was just poking in to this thread because my party is about 13th level, and was struck by this. :-S

Where's the Cinder Swarm published?

Sorry, I had posted a reply to this much earlier, but I think it got eaten because it was when ENWorld was having issues a week or so ago.

The cinder swarm returns as the cindergrove spirit in Open Grave, on page 195, under Wrath of Nature. It has been somewhat reimagined, but so have a lot of older monsters. :) Same picture as before, though. (Which, granted, is a good picture.)

Good job so far, I always liked the night twist and now you have one for 4e.

I need kobolds for my new thread:
http://www.enworld.org/forum/4e-fan-creations-house-rules/256790-kobolds-lifes-little-failures.html

All kobolds are good and there were plenty of good ones in 3.5. You're good at converting so please take a shot at meepo or some other type of kobold from 3.5

Also, I hate the new rust monster, (mm2) Only ONE item can be eaten (Encounter power, no recharge) please fix it so that it fails less. You can put it in the thread too because I need a kobold riding one as one of the new monsters.

Good work so far.

First of all, thanks for the kudos!

Second- I'll give you a couple of my kobold stat blocks.

Finally, my rust monster is down at the level 5 list. There's a link in my sig for the Monster Project's main thread; it has links to all the other threads.
