How many of my players (Cthulhu's Librarian, Rodrigo, Funeris, Bretbo, Seonaid & D'karr) are familiar with Savage Worlds? Were you able to check out the Test Drive rules?

I've not read them yet, but will before the gameday. I'm sure we'll have no trouble with it. I'd prefer to just jump right in and hash it out on the fly if need be. It's a one-shot -- it's not like anyone's going to get all rules-lawyerly or cry if their PC dies cause of a misunderstood rule. Remember, there's no crying in RPGs :p

If anyone in my 'Serenity' game is going to make their own character, drop me a line at jckline at gmail.com. I'll give you some additional background, etc. Rules shouldn't be much of an issue, but I'll make up a quick cheat-sheet in advance.

What he said. :D

I haven't had a chance to go through the other five pages, but I would like some info on the where and when of it. I am guessing the 29th of this month, but where at? I live in Glen Burnie, so I can get to most places around here pretty easily.

My e-mail addy is crow112101(at)yahoo.com and would love to have a chance to meet and game with some of the posters in RL..:)

FYI, the TerpCon site has been updated with some minimal transportation information.

The jist is that lots 1 and Z are available for free parking on Saturday. They're both pretty close to the Union, less than a five minute walk. There's a pay lot a little bit closer, but I need to double check that it's open on weekends (and how late if it is) and find it's designation.

If you're planning on metroing in, be aware that the UM Shuttle doesn't start running until noon on Saturdays. It's possible to walk from the metro station to the union, but if you're lugging any gear I wouldn't recomend it. Taxis tend to be idling right outside the College Park metro, so if you have stuff it might be worth dropping a few bucks (especially if you're planning on being there before noon).

There may be a metro bus available from the station (instead of the free UM shuttle), but I'm still looking into it. No promises.

prizes

I'll probably have a few things. A lot of my leftover stuff went to the ENnie Booth volunteers at GenCon this year, but I'm sure I can pull together a few more things to give away.

I've got some prizes on the way to me from Steve Jackson Games (I'm running one GURPS session, and Steve Strote is running another and also a Munchkin - card game - session).

I'm also expecting a Call of Cthulhu prize or two from Chaosium for my morning game and for that evening CoC slot.

Yikes! I'm really going to follow through and get those flyers out to a couple stores this weekend...

In other news:

I'm just planning my time, and trying to figure out how much of a "rules clinic" to run at the beginning. If everyone knows the game, we can jump right in. Otherwise, we'll want to bring everyone up to speed.

Bretbo, given your involvement with the PEG/GWG fora, I'd guess you know the rules pretty well. Rich, I thought you said you wanted to try it out, so I'm guessing you don't. How 'bout the rest of y'all?

I've only played the revised edition and only one game session. So I'm a newbie to the rules as well. But the game system was not difficult to grasp at all. A quick 5-minute primer will probably be all that we'll need.

Conspiracy in Cabot Cove

I've narrowed down the list of potential characters for the gameday EVENT - Conspiracy in Cabot Cove.

Available for play will be:

Angus "Mac" MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) - MacGyver

Police Sgt. TJ Hooker (William Shatner) - TJ Hooker

Former Army Sgt. Bosco "Bad Attitude" Baracus (Mr. T) - The A - Team

Michael (Long) Knight (David Hasselhoff) - Knight Rider

Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist) - Remington Steele

Remington Steele (Pierce Brosnan) - Remington Steele

Benjamin Leighton "Ben" Matlock (Andy Griffith) - Matlock

Thomas Sullivan Magnum (Tom Selleck) - Magnum, PI

I encourage players to choose characters whose television shows they are familiar with. For instance, don't pick Matlock if you never watched Matlock, and are unfamiliar with the character's quirks, etc. If by some cruel twist of fate, you've never seen any of the shows referenced above, and are unfamiliar with all the characters, I suggest you try to catch some reruns in the next couple of weeks. :) The basic tropes of all the shows may be important to the mystery of who killed Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury from Murder She Wrote)...and why. Additionally, it would be helpful if you're willing to attempt to recreate some of the stereotypical mannerisms of the characters - it makes it more fun for everyone! Matlock (to go back to the earlier example) should have a southern accent!

If you have questions, please let me know.

If you have a preference for a character, let me know, now - if there's a character no one wants to play, I won't waste my time writing them up. :) Personally, I'd recommend avoiding BA Baracus (even though there's been a specific request for him) in favor of some of the other characters that might have a little more procedural place in a mystery! Nonetheless, the request was made, and I'll honor it if need be.

Looking forward to running this!
