1600 gp as first level PC

Yea im definately worried about getting ambushed while asleep.

Ring of sustenance is out of my range ATM. I estimate i have maybe 1k left to buy misc stuff.

Is there any helpful things like a handy haversack, or 1 person-only spoon of sustenance, etc?

Not sure whether i should take wand of cure light wounds, as i already have healing spells.

Full plate is a no......i have 16 dex(using masterwork breastplate).

If you could use it (you can't :( ), a Wand of Goodberry would have been good - 2d4 points of healing plus sustenance! :)
But a Wand of Cure Light Wounds will be quite helpful - unfortunately it does't help if you drop to less then 0 hps.

You could consider paying an NPC to aid you - the PHB contains prices for NPC services, some of the might be interesting to you. This would also solve your "attack at night" problem. The NPC could also be given a potion of Cure Light Wounds to help you in emergency situations.

I think a good (war)horse and a pack animal, possibly even a dog, might prove useful - they can carry your gear, offer additional targets for enemies and can even contribute to a combat.

Some options: I'd say a +1 Cloak of Resistance (1,000 gp), but you won't have much need of it after 2nd level.
Why not? You always need to make saving throws. I consider the Cloak of Resistance to be one of the better value items, that will benefit any character at any level. Anyone who isn't already using the Cloak slot should consider one, and those who are should go for the Vest of Resistance from Complete Arcane at the same price.

The Travel Cloak, from one of the Forgotten Realms books, is a ludicrously useful utility item for the solo adventurer, and not too expensive as I recall - when you wear it, it protects you like an endure elements spell, then it converts to a tent at night, and provides daily rations too. I consider it underpriced, but if you happen to be playing in FR, go for it.

I'd also consider the Bag of Tricks (Gray). None of the animals it produces are worth a damn in combat, but when you're on your own, even useless cannon fodder is better than no cannon fodder, and they're decent trap-springers and ambush-triggers.

If your worried about ambushes as you sleep, see if your DM will allow you to take Vigilant Rest for a feat. It's 3.0 and meant for Oriental Adventures (monks and ninjas spefically) but it isn't game breaking for other classes. The spot check is a bit much, but you can house rule it.

Vigilant Rest

Prereqs: Inkyo level 1st+, Monk or Ninja

Benefit:You can make Spot and Listen checks while asleep without penalty, and you can awaken as a free action when any living creature moves within 5 ft.

I think these are the two best suggestions. It would be one thing if your PC was a stealth-oriented type, but that not being the case, having two or three hirelings along would substantially increase your chances of survival. With the money you have, you could easily hire three people (I'd suggest a couple of warriors and an adept), buy a warhorse and a guard dog.

Not sure if we are allowed to start with NPC hirelings, i will ask. The players are inserted into a maze like dungeon at start, so a horse may be impratical.

If i only take one guard dog wouldnt that dog have to be awake 24/7?

I'd prefer a wand of lesser vigor instead of a wand of CLW, and then have some scrolls to handle in-combat necessities. I also second the cloak of resistance unless you plan to have resistance cast at the beginning of any combat. A single-man party's worst nightmare is a save-or-die spell, where "or die" is anything that incapacitates you, like sleep, hold person, etc. As for resting at night, if you have ranks in UMD, then get a wand of alarm.

I'd only take the one dog if you could have NPCs along. If not, get a bunch of dogs.

I recommend geese. Just as good for watching, less of a stigma if you eat them.

Nothing says you have to eat the whole dog. Just cut chunks off, then use CLW to heal it back. As long as you don't remove an entire limb, you don't need regenerate. For bonus points, feed parts of the flesh back to the dog.
