Phylactery of You-Can't-Yank-My-Paladinhood-Without-Warning-Me... I mean Faithfulness.

MW arms and armor.

A good horse.

Wand of Cure Light Wounds, or Faith Healing.

A really nice house and maybe a small investment into the aristocracy - buy land and title.

It's a stone.

That casts alarm.
Nope. Having flicked through the DMG many a time I know that it's a stone that can be attached to an object to prevent the object from being stolen. Why you would waste money on this item on lower levels is anybody's guess...

Stone of Alarm

This stone cube, when given the command word, affixes itself to any object. If that object is touched thereafter by anyone who does not first speak that same command word, the stone emits a piercing screech for 1 hour that can be heard up to a quarter-mile away (assuming no intervening barriers).

Faint abjuration; CL 3rd; Craft Wondrous Item, alarm; Price 2,700 gp;Weight 2 lb.

Edit: If you're worried about getting ambushed while asleep a 2000 gp ring of sustenance will be helpful. For something more unusual, an effigy (CArc 151) owl construct will cost you 2500 gp.

You put it on your tent.

Except for those pesky two hours :)

Fullplate, large shield. A few scrolls of Cure light wounds, a riding horse and a few oxen besideds your normal equipment.

Hopefully the hungry monsters you encounter like beef.

Still, waking up as someone or something bursts into your tent isn't really an ideal situation.

No, indeed :) The cheapie construct sounds interesting - have to have a look when I get back to my CArc...

Construct owls remind me of Clash of the Titans, so there's that going for it too... ;)
