Possibly, I doubt it's D&D being sold...WotC....maybe... more than likely it's the DI.

Whatever will be discussed, I'm pretty sure it won't be 4E (and they'll talk about a temporary lull since they can't discuss 4E), and it probably won't deal with the future of D&D. Instead, I'd go with the others and assume that it's probably the DI. Either that, or Gleemax wants to eat ENWorld for breakfast.

My guess is that they will elaborate on the DI (I'm hoping for a chargen software) and specifically Dragon and Dungeon magazines online. If they're smart they will provide the first issues of each magazine for free so everyone can sample the new product and get over their grumpyness.

Until recently I did think they would be anouncing 4th edition but I'm not so sure any more.

It won't be 4E, though the time to strike with a 4E announcement is now. I suspect it'll be all about the DI and an explanation that "this is just a lull".

There will never ever be another WotC major announcement at Gen Con. 4E will be announced at a Winter Fantasy event, so the earliest it'll happen is Winter Fantasy 2008 for release at Wionter Fantasy 2009.

The thing about a 4e announcement at GenCon is that it just won't happen. Maybe it was a possibilty a year or two ago(not the edition, the anncounement location), but now that WotC has their own convention where they've stated all major announcements will take place...well...expecting a 4e announcement at GenCon just seems foolish.

I'd like to know what the basis of the rumors are. I mean, what makes people think that a stunning announcement will be given? I appologize if something as obvious as a press release from WotC was sent out saying 'stunning announcements given at GenCon.'

I remember before last Winter Fantasy they said these things, some big anouncement was to be made...they announced jack.

And they ARE making major announcements at Gencon, at least on the DI, they have said that already.
