2006 NHL Entry Draft

Turns out the kid can fly.

The kid can glide anyway. Not about to call him Superman, though (that moniker is reserved for Wardo).

As for Bert, I think his hours are numbered in Vancouver, and I'd be quite surprised if they weren't.

Anyone know why the draft is so late tomorrow?

Umm, because it's in Vancouver. The reality is that I don't know, but I'd assume it is a time zone thing. why would anyone want to get up at 10am PT for draft day. :\

Of course, they could also be trying to make it more of a TV event, so having it in the late afternoon would give more hockey fans the chance to watch it.

Cheers!

I doubt it's down to hours. His contract isn't up and I doubt that we can get anything decent for him. I suspect he's being told "play hard, get your value up and we'll trade you".

So We agree, except that I'd say his Months are numbered, rather than his hours.

Umm, read the Free Agency Frenzy thread... Bert just got traded, to Florida. I'll let you figure out for who on your own.

And it is!

Kind of sad to see Auld and Allen leave with him (both are quality guys), but Bert for Luongo is exactly what this team needed.

Look for Cloutier to be headed out the door next (he'll go for bupkis just to free up cap room).

Looks like we are looking at Luongo/Noronen as our Goaltending duo.

I wonder if, with Cloutier's money, we can re-sign Jovonovski??

My head is spinning!

That's the thing that makes me wonder about this trade. The Canucks had to give up a lot to get a goaltender who has no interest in signing a long-term contract. He wants to test the unrestricted free agent market at the end of next year. The Canucks would have to offer him an UNBELIEVABLE contract for him to consider signing.

Agreed. Cloutier is definitely on the move, after this deal. There isn't any way he'll want to play behind Luongo.

Nonis was on The Score earlier and he said that the team's restricted free agents are first proirity, but that he'll TRY to sign JovoCop. However, his tone was a bit sarcastic. Now that there are some familiar faces in Florida, expect Jovonovski to want to go there even more than he wanted to before the trade.

My head is spinning!
Now you know how Oiler fans felt after getting Pronger and Peca. ;)

Don't wanna say I told ya so...but then I was wrong about Luongo, too. They did get something for him. That's kinda scary for Vancouver. They either pay him whatever the upper limit is for multi-year contract, or he signs for one year and that turns into a bad trade. Not Thornton to San Jose bad, but yikes.
