2006 NHL Entry Draft

I'll give you Keith Primeau since I'd be silly to offer any D-man. Not because it's bad trade...well it is but only for you since I don't think any of Philly's D-men are worth/equal of Pronger.
Umm, you're going to have to offer way more than Primeau. He's had major injury problems, plus I'd want someone younger and faster. A quick, tough goal scorer, minimum.

You' need to do better than that. Primeau is a quality guy, but give them a D Man to fill Pronger's spot too.

Derian Hatcher + Primeau.

I wouldn't take Hatcher. He's told old and slow. Maybe if it was 10 years ago.

At minimum I'd want Simon Gagne. I would also want a good, solid D-man back and at leat one high draft pick.

Okay, after checking the Flyers' roster page, I think I'd go with this trade.

Pronger and a prospect to the Flyers for Simon Gagne, Freddy Meyer, and a 1st (or 2nd) round draft pick in 2007.

The prospect CAN'T be Devan Dubnyk, Rob Schremp, Andrew Cogliano, or Danny Syvret. Most likely I'd offer Liam Reddox or Kyle Brodziak. If you were willing to trade Steve Downie instead of a draft pick then I'd be willing to give up Marc-Antoine Pouliot and, maybe, a low draft pick.

Cheers!

Ahh, I missed Gagne on their roster.

Definitely Gange, + a first rounder, + Joni Pitkanen.

Hell, throw R.J Umberger in and we'll give you Peca as well:)

Hmm, hadn't seen Pitkanen. Good choice. But I doubt the Oil would be able to get both Gagne and Pitkanen, even for Pronger. But if it is possible then I'd ask for Gagne, Pitkanen, and Downie for Pronger and Marc-Antoine Pouliot.

Well, I don't think Nightfall would fall for that. I'm sure he's well aware of Peca's status with the Oilers.

Sadly I'm sure Clarke might do that. All I know is I like Pitken(sp) but I will admit, the guy coughs up the puck a good bit.

Possibly another goalie, but we'll see. In any event *shrugs* I just figure the Flyers will do what they always do: do very little on D or Goalie, get a few more forwards. :p

If you want a goalie, we'll throw in Conklin for a bucket of pucks. :p

Draft day trades, so far...

Thrashers trade Stefan to Dallas

In the wake of Friday night's blockbuster deal between Vancouver and Florida, the Atlanta Thrashers and Dallas Stars made a deal just before the start of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Atlanta sent former number one overall pick Patrik Stefan and defenceman Jaroslav Modry to the Stars for Niko Kapanen and a 7th round pick.

Stefan, taken first overall in 1999, was the first pick in the Thrashers' history. He never lived up to his potential, mostly due to various injuries.

Last season, Stefan scored 10 goals and 24 points in 64 games after struggling through a sports hernia problem. Concussion issues have also hampered his progress at the pro level.

In 414 NHL games, Stefan has 59 goals, 118 assists and 177 points.

Despite Stefan's struggles, Stars general manager Doug Armstrong is anxious to insert the centre into his lineup.

"Patrik is a good two-way player who we feel will be a good fit on our team," Armstrong said. "He's a strong skater and has the ability to play centre or wing. We expect him to be a good addition to our group of forwards."

Modry, 35, is still an effective offensive defenceman. He scored 7 goals and 38 points last season with the Thrashers.

In 569 career NHL games, Modry has 47 goals, 176 assists and 223 points.

The move could certainly be seen as a slary dump by te Thrashers. Modry will make $1.824 million next season, while Stefan is a restricted free agent who made $1.064 million last season.

Kapanen is a restricted free agent who made the league minium of $450,000 last season.

Kapanen is best-known as a defensive forward. Last season he set a career-high with 14 goals. He added 21 assists for 35 points, but was a -10. That's a far cry from the 2002-2003 season, when Kapanen had 34 points and a +25 rating.

In 239 career NHL games, Kapanen has 20 goals, 56 assists and 76 points.

Kings trade Demitra to Wild

(TSN.CA) - The Los Angeles Kings did not have a first round draft pick on Saturday, so they still made a splash in an effort to get one.

The Kings traded forward Pavol Demitra to the Minnesota Wild for Patrick O'Sullivan and the 17th pick in the draft.

Demitra, 31, played scored 25 goals and 37 assists for 62 points in 58 games last season. It was a tough one for Demitra, who had health problems, including a bad eye injury.

The Wild expect him to make a lethal partnership with Marian Gaborik.

"I think it'll help them both be productive," Wild GM Doug Risebrough said shortly after making the deal. "They both are a good fit, they'll feed off each other. We think Marian's the best player on the team and we're trying to find ways to make him better."

In 611 NHL games, Demitra has scored 241 goals, 340 assists and 581 points. He is a +106 in his career.

O'Sullivan is a skilled player who was a second round pick last year. He scored 47 goals and 93 points for Houston of the AHL last season.

The Kings used the 17th selection to take USHL forward Trevor Lewis. He was the league MVP after scoring 75 points in 56 games.
