More's the pity.Well for fifth edition they barely did, didn't they?
If this was 2000 era WOTC, 5E would be on it third revision and have dozens of player option books.

I do wonder how accurate they are though. I know their early books often had CR errors.Good news! The Tales of the Valorent Game Master Guide has robust monster creation rules! You can go use that if gor your monster creation needs!
It has been a long time since I looked at them, but I don't remember being overly impressed. At the time I definitely preferred the 2014 DMG rules. However, I have not made any monsters with the A5e monster making guidelines and I have made hundreds with the 2014 DMG guidelines.Level Up also has solid monster creation rules in the Monstrous Menagerie.

The ig issue is under the scrutiny of the entire D&D community, you will get people complaining that the A5e rules don't create a High AC/Low Damage monster or High Damage/Low HP monster.
And thus need a CR chart for each combination of stats.
Basically you'd need a CR chart for each of the 4e Monster roles plus some.
And before you say "That's ridiculous. You don't need a dozen charts"... that's the only way nobody's gonna make a thread or video complaining.
- A CR chart for Archers
- A CR chart for Brutes
- A CR chart for Buffers
- A CR chart for Casters
- A CR chart for Controllers
- A CR chart for Elites
- A CR chart for Healers
- A CR chart for Lurkers
- A CR chart for Minions
- A CR chart for Skirmishers
- A CR chart for Solo Legendary Monsters
- A CR chart for Soldiers
- A CR chart for Tanks
Sure.I bet the D&D community would have no problem paying $50 for 399 pages of monster creation charts/tools/abilities/etc.
There is nothing anyone can do that will stop people complaining. But you are right, there are far too many situational variables for a single table to be particularly meaningful. The ig issue is under the scrutiny of the entire D&D community, you will get people complaining that the A5e rules don't create a High AC/Low Damage monster or High Damage/Low HP monster.

My point is that if they just reprinted the 2014 monster creation table with corrected math, half the people complaining about its absence now would be instead complaining about how boring it is AND have the data to mock them in blog posts and YouTube videos. There is nothing anyone can do that will stop people complaining. Again, this is an argument against publishing rules of any sort. And then where would WotC's poor shareholders be?My point is that if they just reprinted the 2014 monster creation table with corrected math, half the people complaining about its absence now would be instead complaining about how boring it is AND have the data to mock them in blog posts and YouTube videos.
Better off not giving people the ammo.
Aain the argument is that there are things that the customer base is asking for that they would hate if they're given it.Again, this is an argument against publishing rules of any sort. And then where would WotC's poor shareholders be?
