"24" latest episode

I think tonight's episode clearly showed that Jack had a veryclose friend down in Mexico when he was undercover. I had heard whispers about this on some show pages, but wasn't sure about the validity until tonight's show.

And what's happened to the virus now? Does the girl (Kyle's girlfriend) have it or something? I didn't follow that part...
My loony theory is that it was never Kyle or anyone related to him that had the virus. Right now, I suspect it is Jack himself. First, we know... Paille? Whatever the techie's name is, he has access and tabs on the entirety of CTU. He could have easily slipped in a tainted version of the heroin Jack was taking, plus since it's injected, that gives him near exact timing as to the release of the virus. This also accounts for Salazar's brother and his wife to freak out - they know the plan is to infect Jack, since he betrayed them. Kyle Singer was a gigantic decoy to misdirect against the one most likely targetted.

The only inconsistency I can figure is why they would want him brought back. Perhaps they don't want to release the virus, knowing there will be massive retaliation if they do. Killing Jack exposes people to the virus, presumably, and so they bring him back for proper disposal. But it's a weak theory at best.

Disclaimer: I love this show!!!!!

The first season had that awesome moment when the female assassin blew herself out of the doorway of the doomed plane at the end of the first episode. That scene made me stand up and shout.

The second season had the jaw dropping line “I’m gonna need a hacksaw” at the end of the second or third episode--again, a moment that just felt outrageously shocking and cool.

I guess they were trying for that with the Jack shooting up scene in this season’s first episode, but it didn’t have the same impact. Maybe because he did the “good” thing and tossed away the needle...I don’t know. Just not a WOW for me so much. Am I getting jaded? Or is there another scene that made you stand up and shout?

Also, does anybody else think the writers are getting a bit lazy, or something? Meaning, there seem to be a lot of contrived situations, obviously designed to keep the plot moving (as opposed to being well set up and believable). I’m talking about 1.) The kid escaping from the mall--its supposedly sealed off and swarming with cops, but he just runs out an exit. 2) Jack, our hero who is so amazingly smart and tough, saying “We’ll just have to fight our way through the prisoners” (lame plan!) and then getting beaten and caught so quickly/easily. 3) Well, sorry boys, but the whole thing with Kim suddenly being a computer wiz. I mean, she was a NANNY three years ago--and never seemed to have what TV Guide calls “a working brain”. I suppose they can’t just drop her, but please.

That being said, I loved the scene where Tony gets shot, love the fact that Michelle is now in charge (tho I suspect it won’t last--she’s going to bolt for the hospital, I’m afraid), loved the scene where they seal off the kid’s apartment and chain saw through the door, loved the Russian roulette session at the prison, and even gained new respect for dumb infected kid when he figured out the right thing to do was to kill himself (remember, the virus is not infectious in a dead host!). Too bad his girlfriend stopped him.

So far the storyline with the President isn’t too interesting, but I have hopes things will pick up. I hope they take up the assassination attempt from last season’s finale somehow--it seems to be too glossed over at this point (except for a reason for the Prez to have a new woman in his life).

Gael, courtesy of the official site, which is also good for checking up on what happens (they have minute by minute timelines for each episode).

I agree that Kyle never had the virus (Kyle Singer, the new Kim Bauer! I hope we've seen the last of him), but I don't think Jack has it either. I'd say the reason they want him brought back is for a little payback, after all Jack's the one who arrested Ramone in the first place.

I forget now, but I believe in the first or second episode it was stated that the virus would only spread if the carrier was alive or at leat was dead from it already. There is the dead body form the very beginning that was infected after all.

I'm not sure that the writers are going for that this time. You have to remember that so far each season has had completely different themes running. Season one really just introduced us to the format and showed us how much they can squeeze into a day. Season two was a real change of pace with all the beautiful people, the nuke, and the death of George. It had a bit more style than season 1, but the stakes were much higher. The stakes are just as high this season, but I really think they're going for dark and almost depressing. Jack's a junkie, Tony gets shot in the neck at the very beginning, Kim's in what is arguably the most dangerous place in LA right now.

Anyway, I have some predictions. First, I think that Kyle did bring the virus into the country, but it may be in an unexpected place - probably his car. Kim will have yet another excellent adventure. Jack's finally going to be able to get out of LA, but Mexico is going to be a tough one for him since he'll have no backup whatsoever. Finally, I bet his partner (Kim's dude, I forget his name) takes a bullet before this gets too much farther along. She's too happy, and there's not enough tension between Jack and Kim right now.

Pause for spoilers......

Woah...so Gael (sp?) isn't bad? I'm not even sure what all the implications of this are...but that was a cool episode. I'm glad that this season is starting to pick up. I was a little nervous for a while that it wasn't going as well as the last ones...

My that was good. Continuing spoiler space below...

I was just waiting for Gayul to say something like "You wouldn't be the first one killed in this building." Something cold or evil like that. Then he went down like a punk. Me and my girl were like "Hey, good to see the good guys nail one for a change." Little did we know.

Evil, evil writers. :D

Spoilers....

So why was Guyel (how many different ways can we spell this?) so rough on Kim? I don't think she could have screwed things up any wor....wait a minute. This IS Kim here...she probably would have blown the cover or got stalked by another cougar or something. I'm really trying to figure this whole thing out, but I'm too tired right now. Would someone care to think for me and talk this thing through?

I'd say that the implications are that it is now a whole new ballgame! Kind of like "The Sting", with a con inside a con. I love how the last fifteen minutes both invalidated and built upon all the episodes that preceeded it. This is a great show! I just hope that the 'yawn' Palmer storyline picks up some.
