D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Conversion for Templar

Templar is one of the few PrC's that allows weapon specialization for a non fighter class. They also receive bonus feats at 4th and 8th levels. 3.5 has added greater weapon specialization to the list of allowable feats. Would it make sense for templar to receive "greater weapon specialization" instead of one of the default "free" feats?

Definitely not. It takes 12th level fighter to get that.... specialization is only 4th (or 6th for psychic warrior). I don't think that a prestige class should get the greater version at all. It's the only reason to play a fighter above 8th level.

Templars are plenty powerful enough without any changes in 3.5, thankyouverymuch.

just hear me out here

Look-playing 12 levels of fighter to get greater weapon specialization is not the only reason-the main reason is feats and later EPIC feats-fighters get an insane number of epic feats at higher levels...You would have to be a 13th (min) level character to take greater weapon specialization as a templar.

You want to talk broken?...look at knight of the middle circle...they get true strike at will up to 3 times a day...combine that with 3.5 power attack and weapon specialization looks like manure.....

Has there been a ruling on true strike and power attack?

Why should there be a ruling on True Strike/Power Attack?

You need a standard action to activate/cast True Strike, that's one full round of attacks just to add your BAB to damage once?

Hardly broken! :)

You could even be a Peerless Archer (Power Shot (same as Power Attack for Bows)) with a Bow of True Strike (True Strike at will, NO daily limit!), and I bet you wouldn't be using that power much at higher levels!

Templar *already* rocks. That's the thing. It doesn't *need* GWS, it's good without it. All the good cleric buff spells, damage reduction, smite anything, bonus feats, two good saves, fighter BAB, free specialization at 1st level... good lord, what more do you want?

After 6th level, the main reason to stay with fighter is the two greater weapon feats... you just run out of decent feats to take. And talking about epic levels is nice, but not everyone plays that high, and although I agree that the epic rules did a lot to make fighters worth it, it still doesn't change the fact that levels 13-20 suck horribly for fighters. Let's see, Sorcerer gets meteor swarm 3 times per day... I get umm... hrm... improved disarm. Fear me.

As for true strike 3 times per day... who cares? Yeah, so at 20th level with a two handed weapon it's like 40 extra damage on one attack... giving up a full attack for 40 damage at 20th level is pretty stupid. Any melee specialist who isn't doing an average of 15 or 20 points per hit at 20th isn't trying.

Let me say again, Templar is already a really awesome PrC, it doesn't need GWS, and I don't think it should get it.

Definitely true! Even for a character with a relatively low BAB, True Strike/Power Attack is advantageous only when he's having trouble hitting to begin with. For a Knight of the Middle Circle (who gives up more attacks, has less trouble hitting, and has blind-fight), it will be a similarly limited-use tactic.
