3.5 D&D or really 4.0!!!

2e and 1e were both very similar, in fact, I used to play a campaign that was a mixture of both, of course we didn't know the rules, but that's a whole different story

He could be asking a legit question, but missed the bandwagon of threads from a week or two again.

4th Edition is here! Better, stronger, than all previous....now when will 5th Edition D&D be coming out, maybe after the "optional rule books" are released for 4th (3.5) Edition?

To be honest 4th edition will take a while, so wait and see.

Hi Technik4 , yes I bought it! I admit to stay in line with the Jones, I had to get it. To stay apart of the game community I bought it. Because it had the words Dungeons & Dragons on it, I bought it! Is that right? If I was seeing a shrink, he may say otherwise :D

So soon after the release of 3rd Ed which was susposed to have been play tested to be the perfected game? Sure enough, you'll have errata. But come on, the three main "core" books to play the game are now re-released within 3 years. 1st Ed AD&D was about 9 years before 2nd Ed replaced it (which was not dramaticly different, just improved upon?) and 2nd Ed AD&D ruled for about 11 years, before 3rd Ed was born. The games we played before with these previous editions and the fun we had is no less, so to "have to have" a new rules system to make it that much more fun is...?

Please do not misunderstand me. I enjoy the game and it is my largest hobby and I've grown with it. In respect to everyone who responded, yes 3.5 Ed is just that... 3.5, your arguments provide that and I respect your views and you are most likely correct, but in my opinion, because I have to buy the core books again to stay current, that to me is a 4.0. It was never a requirement to play the previous Editions.

My newness to the boards precludes me from past discussions, so please pardon my ignorance if I've unknowingly flogg this horse a second time.

Cheers :D

Are you seriously saying that 11 years of 2nd ed was about right? I would've been much happier (and might've actually played D&D before year 2000) if 3e had been written 3 years after 2nd ed.

It's not only the years between new editions / revisions that matter, but also the quality and amount of changes.

Seems that 2nd Ed AD&D was the most popular and played RPG during that time. 3rd Ed was believed and still is by many that it was a way to pick up sales for WotC for its new HASBRO masters. You can't really sit there and say I didn't play AD&D because of "whatever" and 3rd Ed is what "made" me play D&D. I suppose you don't like your veggies either. I dare someone to step up and say they had a lousy time playing 2nd Ed AD&D, if you do then where do you get off by saying 3rd Ed is sooo much better, when "within 3 years" they have to have the core rules released. So much for the "thousands of hours of play testing". :(

But, I digress, I am willing to admitt that there are improvements and they where needed, "if" one was to remain current with the evolution of the game.

Still, if that is so, then it's evolutionary scale would still be around an ape and a ways to go before we reach a homo-sapien-sapien equivalent. Wow! That would be many more Revised Editions for D&D, wouldn't it? Maybe I should wait for the 100th Edition before I decide that I can have some fun with the game!

My apologies for the sarcasium, but I get fired at the idea that someone would use the excuse that they didn't play AD&D because 3rd Ed D&D was what they were waiting for? When the messy fact is this 3.5 Ed is more of a 4.0 Ed.

I would've been much happier (and might've actually played D&D before year 2000) if 3e had been written 3 years after 2nd ed.

Who really cares? I've bought into the scam, and I'll play 4.0 (3.5 :) ) and life will go on, birds will chirp, flowers will grow, and the neighbours dog will still bark at midnight!

Look it's 4.0 Ed D&D!!

Cheers! :D
