3.5 Dungeon 100 info

-

Wrong. ALL attacks that are made when sneak attack is possible (for example, flanking or invisible attacker) are sneak attacks. Rogue only shines in combat with sneak attack (Or possible in ranged combat, with proper weapons of course), which can be negated by a lot of things.

Blindsense

I'm surprised no one has seen the change to Blindsense. This is from the entry for the skeletal Dragon on page 34, I quote....

Blindsense (Ex): Dragons notice and locate creatures within a range of 60 feet. Opponants the dragon can't actually see still have 100% concealment against the dragon.

Now that's cool! Blindsight was one of the more harsh abilities. In one campaign i was in everyone didn't even bother with invisibility spells since it seemed that every critter we ran up against had blindsight.

Anyhow, i like this change.

They toned blindsight down? Cool. (I suppose they changed the name so it was clear that you couldn't "see" with it; probably a good idea.)

I totally agree with this. My friends campaign just died..why cause the PCs were too freaking tough...

I don't understand how PCs could be too tough. I can see how they could be tougher than the system figures PCs of their level would be (higher ability scores, more magic, smarter players, etc.). I can also see how PCs could be too tough for an individual GM's comfort -- but that seems easy to handle (use lower ability scores, less magic items, ban items/feats/classes, etc. Even ask the players to play less capable characters).

Are you sure 3.5e goes far enough for you. I'll dig into the future a little bit and see if I can speculate on the kind of spell and monster changes that would make you really happy:

Longsword: 1d10 damage
Bastard Sword: 1d12 damage
Greatsword: 2d8 damage

Magic Missile: Sor/Wiz 1; Casting Time: 1 full round; Range: 5 feet (1 square); Target 1 creature; Effect: one or more missiles of Force.
1d2 damage; 1 extra missile/10 caster levels.

Bless: Clr 1; Casting time: 1 full round; Range 10 feet (2 squares); Target: 1 ally/ 3 levels within range...
+1 to will saves vs. fear.

Slay Living: Clr 5; Casting time: 1 action; Range: touch; Target: 1 creature; effect: 8d6 damage; Fort save 1/2

Troll: Large Giant; Init +4; AC 29 [+4 dex, +16 natural, -1 size]; HD 20d10+80; HP 190 Atk: 2 claws +30 (1d20+15) and bite +25 (4d12+27); SA: Death Gaze; SQ: Scent, Regeneration, SR 35;... CR 6

Death Gaze: Any character beginning the round within 300 feet of the troll must make a fort save (DC 35) or die. This counts as a death effect for purposes of Raise Dead but is not blocked by Death Ward.

It'll be so much more balanced. Anyone with half a brain can see that the 3.5e monsters they're putting out will be much too wimpy. Sure this will power up the monsters but they needed powering up. Seriously, they were losing to PCs. And these changes will help even the balance between fighters and those clerics and wizards who are just too powerful. And we got rid of the last of the death effects too. People say these changes are downgrading PCs, but they obviously haven't looked at the changes to weapons. 1d10 damage with a longsword, did you see that! And 2d8 with the greatsword. This is gonna be the best game ever.

Oh god its scary to see how many D&D gamers are from the whiners cry baby party. congrats girls!

I like the changes very much! They are all exellent. I hope that wotc will have the balls to do it all the way.

buffs in 3e were are way too good option.
Monsters were too weak.
So they did the right thing.
I always hated the *buff* approach that 3e took.
I'm glad to see that these times are over.
DEATH TO BUFFS
DEATH TO INSTAKILL
!!!
WHHOOHHOOOO!
I love 3.5e!:D

You can only go so far with each revision. Give me D&D 4.75e and I'll have it for you :)

E.B. that doesn't go far enough! There's still magic in your game.
It's all about manly men, who spit at magic. Don't you know?

This is a nice change. Blindsight was a little too ambiguous and open-ended IMO. It really didn't fit for dragons as it was written. How could you possibly include a cool scene where an invisible creatures talks with the dragon enemy if the dragon knew exactly where the invisible creature was? This will make for more interesting interactions with dragons now that invisibility will work against them.

Here's an item I noticed from Dungeon 100:

Magic bows and arrows don't stack (unless this is an error).

Check out the FTR/Sor/Arc Archer in "The Lich Queen's Beloved"

Attack +23 with +1 comp (+3 Str) longbow & +4 arrow:

+15 BAB
+3 Dex
+1 Weapon Focus
+1 bow
+4 arrow (I get +24, but if only the highest magic bonus applies, +23 is right)

But damage 1d8+7:
+3 Comp longbow
+4 arrow (overlaps +1 bow)

Good change, that -- only the arrow's magic applies for damage (or the higher of the two, don't know which).

Edit: Looking at some other archer stats, I'd guess only the higher bonus of the two applies to both attacks and damage.

I don't have the mag in front of me right now (I'm at work), so correct me if I'm wrong:

Have they changed Quicken Spell? I was looking at the Lich Queen's stat block, and I saw that she had several slots filled with Empowered spells, but none with Quickened spells. And yet her tactics section specifically stated that she casts quickened spells every round.

Are they going with the ability to spontaneously cast spells quickened at 4 levels higher, without memorizing them as such in advance?

Or was my (admittedly cursory) reading missing something?
