I haven't seen it. Wish I had. My guess is it would be just like the 3.0 version - you get a new favored enemy, but without the additional +2 bonus.

I found it.

From the Living Greyhawk 3.5 Conversion Document:
Benefit is altered to "You may select an additional favored enemy as if you had gained the appropriate level of ranger to do so. You increase one of your favored enemy bonuses as well, as if you had gained an appropriate level of ranger to do so.

So there you have it. Official, in a Living Greyhawk sense, but is it balanced?

You're trading in a feat slot, which for a Ranger is pretty precious. Extra Favored Enemy wasn't/isn't a Fighter bonus feat so they don't come along very often for a Ranger. I think it balances fine.

If you add every bonus +2 to your 1st level FE (including the bonus from an extra favored enemy) you get a total of +12 to damage, track, bluff, sense motive, etc. By 20th Level an extra 20 points of damage isn't going to be that overwhelming.

20 damage a hit for a ranger with the full line of dual-wielding weapons is pretty sick, as is it for an archer-ranger who tends to get more full-round attacks (but less attacks within a full-round attack) than a dual-wielder. +20 to some of those skills is also pretty impressive, especially if you chose something common for the campaign like humanoid (Human). Now thats a ranger that can out-do a rogue in a city (assuming human city) environment. +20 Bluff, Hide, Move Silently, Listen, Spot, Sense Motive, Intimidate, etc.

Improved favored enemy is somewhat close.

Extra Favored Enemy is in Ghostwatch as well. That is the most recent publication of that feat. It is still a valid for 3.5.
