You guys are going to take th' time to "re-do" the paint job? I see.

My biggest concern is the "common vs. rare" thing. If I want minis (not a given, I assure you), I sure as h*ll don't want to buy half-a-dozen sets just to get an ogre. Eeeesh.

I don''t plan on buying any common critters, possibly just things that WotC has the IP for that Reaper or Games Workshop haven't gotten around already. Really, instead of putting out more cheesy miniatures, why not just hook up with these companies to license good miniatures? Even if you think GW does cartoon goblins, their Lord of the Rings miniatures are very nice, and their original AD&D pieces were far better than these.

Well, as a fan of miniatures who absolutely, positively, unequivocally, indubitably, incontrovertably HATES painting them, I think the paint jobs look great for someone like me. More to the point, I don't have to file off a Mage Knight base and put on one of my own, I don't have to worry about hot gluing together pieces and parts, and they are cheap enough to replace if they become damaged.

Yes, friends, I am THAT GAMER. That slob who shoves his lead and pewter minis into a box, plays with them with all the axe heads torn off and the swords snapped at the hilt, and with some of the minis bent at unhealthy angles and ankes showing signs of wear and tear. And of my 35 or so mini's, not one is painted. Well, except for the Star Wars micro machines, and those came prepainted.

So, with luck, this is right up my alley.

Whats that first creature; it looks like a monkey.

It'll be perfect for my horde of monkey barbarians! Muahahahaha!

There aren't enough monkey miniatures.

Monkeys are funny.

So am I. :)

One note: the paint jobs for these particular figures are better than what will appear. These are the models they used to demonstrate how they should be painted - alas, the real miniatures won't look so good.

OTOH, I love that Ogre.

I do hope that when the mass-combat book comes out that they'll seriously consider making a large preconstructed boxed set of figures.

Cheers!

The thing between Jozan and the Centaur is an orc priest of Grummsh, apparently - the "Eye of Grummsh"

Not a priest per se. More of an orcish templar. Eye of Grummsh is a PrC from Masters of the Wild.

I like these minis just fine. I'll buy a few packs.

If you're a true mini hobbyist, then why are you buying prepainted plastics?

Because WotC owns the rights to the images of many creatures unique to the D&D game. Beasties from MM2 and FF simply cannot be made by other companies. A second reason, yet to be seen, is that there may be some well sculpted cheap miniatures on the secondary market worth the effort to strip and repaint.
