3.5 Modules?

diaglo said:

like adventure instead of module. they dropped the word module during the 2ed era.

I think the term "module" might make a come-back actually. :) A lot of products coming out right now are not "just" adventures, they're more!

For example, I like to call my book an "adventure setting" because it only has a short adventure (about 10 pages). Much of the book is dedicated to the actual setting (about 30 pages). The rest is focused on supplemental rules (about 30 pages). You build the World of Whitethorn piece by piece using these adventure settings (in a modular fashion).

So, it's not really an adventure (though I love adventures) and in fact, it would be easier to call it a module.

Here's a link in case you're interested:

I hate to sound like an advertisement, but I thought this might help. Good luck and let me know if there are other 3.5 adventures/modules coming out soon!

No, not really. There are minor changes like re-naming "Pick Pocket" to "Sleight of Hand" and detailing flat-footed and touch ACs in stat blocks. Besides that, it's pretty much the same.

You do need to take a look at the changes to the monsters though, need to make sure that you are still in the same EL neighborhood. Any spellcaster NPCs will likely need to be reworked to some degree too.

Pick up Dungeon #97, 98 and 102. These issues have their 'Adventure Path' series, a group of interlinked adventures designed to take your party from level 1 to level 20. The latest one will get you to about level 8, and the next part is scheduled for issue #104.

I've been checking monsters in the SRD - no books yet. There are some changes. The dog for example (don't ask why I had to check that one) gets significant differences in skills, low-light vision (which it had before but is now listed) and two feats that it didn't have before - Alertness and Track.

Sure, the combat stats stayed the same. It's just a few little things added. As a detail nut, this gets to me because it's something more for me to use that I might miss out on. Will I lose sleep over it? Nope. Will I occasionally go 'Grrr'? Yep.

I've posted a pre-generated PC that is 3.5 at my Web site.

Although he's got a couple of World of Whitethorn (campaign-specific) stats included such as age, height, weight, reputation, special ability, and special weakness, the rest of his stats are 3.5 and show very little change from 3.0, at least in my opinion.

Judge for yourself:

Do you really need to do that? Why not just use the old monster as it is and its old attributes? That way it should be okay for the encounter level. If the players wonder why magic weapons work instead of needing cold iron, then that creature is just a sub-species of the 3.5 version.

yeah, i bought the 3 modules;) from Goodman Games and got Dave A. to sign the one he wrote.:D

problem is my FLGS doesn't carry anything. even when i asked (i'm on good terms with the owner) they still can't get it.

i end up having to see it on the internet to even know that it exists.

WotC and maybe, just maybe Scarred Lands or Kalamar/HackMaster are the only things i see readily available around me.

Cool, I met Dave Arneson at Gen Con this year, but he didn't quite remember me. He was chatting with one of the best DMs at the convention, Todd, who DM'd in a group I played in last year.

That's a major problem with some gaming stores-- they just don't carry or have access to a lot of books from smaller publishers. That's a shame because Goodman Games has some good stuff. I picked up Idylls of the Rat King at the store, but they haven't gotten the next two books in the series yet. :(

Joseph Goodman did say he'd send me a copy of the one Dave Arneson wrote just for Gen Con when I stopped by his booth. I wanted to trade him for one of my books, but apparently he'd already picked one up at the MEG booth. Also, they only had a few copies left. Looks like it was a big hit!

Have you checked out The Hamlet of Thumble yet? It's available for pre-order now. :)
