D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Problem with Enlarge Person and Encumbrance

3.5 renewed my interest in Enlarge Person, but I just saw a big problem, and that is the maximum carrying capacity. It does not scale at the same rate as the weight increase of your equipment, causing enlarged characters to become overburdened.

For example:
A medium 13 Str character carries a light load with 50 lbs. or less equipment. (p. 162 PHB)

When this character is enlarged a light load constitutes 132 lbs. (66 for 15 Str, x2 for being Large), which is only 2.5 times the original carrying capacity while the weight increased by a factor 8.

If this character had worn chain mail (40 lbs.) and a heavy mace (8 lbs.), both together would weigh in at 384 lbs. Only just below the maximum load (400 lbs.) a 15 Str Large character would be able to carry. If the character was wearing more than a light load, he would suddenly be reduced to staggering around.

Would you ignore this increase in weight or penalize the PC's movement and armor check penalty for suddenly carrying a heavy load?

Except for the fact that large versions of weapons and armor only weigh twice as much, page 114, phb 3.5 and page 122, phb 3.5

Enjoy,
