[3.5] Revision Spotlight - Druid class

huh, that's the one part i *didn't* like. Druids have always had perfect knowledge of natural plants (well, D&D druids, that is). And it's not like it's a really unbalancing power. I can understand them going to a skill bonus, but then it should at least be something like +10--that gets it into the realm of "knows everything".

Me, personally, I would rather have seen Nature Sense be scaling up with level. Say +1 per three levels to Knowledge (Nature) and Survival check

AARGH !! Why the heck this stupid reference to Polymorph for Wildshape again?! The WS version in MotW was pretty clear, why not simply taking it into the core book?

Does anybody knows if Polymorph allows the "Ex" abilities? Otherwise WS is as bad as it was at the beginning of 3.0, IMO.

Although I like the changes for WS, I won't like it if the druid can't become the animal with all its abilities.

I dont know for sure but I would assume the answer is yes.
Polymorph has been completely redone, and I assume it will allow ex abilities. I seriously doubt that the R&D at WOTC would "revise"wildshape back to a prior flawed incarnation.

I would too have problems in understanding why she shouldn't get the extraordinary abilities. After all, when shaping in to an elemental she gets all ex- su- and sp- abilities.

Besides, I have never understood why some spells lets you use the sp- and ex- but not the su-?

Druids encased in forged metal plates? There's no question that its a bad idea. I don't think of it as an oath so much as the armor cuts off the connection of the druid to the web of life around them. The 24 hour thing might be a bit excessive though.

Nature Sense - A cool but generally overlooked power is reduced to a single feat. Not good enough. Having voices in there head is a very nice idea, perhaps the reduction to a mere bonus represents only getting whispers from the local area.

Animal Companions - Awaken them, and let them level as npcs.

Wild Empathy - Me like. But I think it should apply to Intimidate as well. Why? Because sometimes you want to stare down a lizard. Because it ignores your diplomacy. And animals tend to ignore the normal Intimidate skill. Am I wrong?

Wild Shape - The duration makes it somewhat balanced, but destroys a key part of the flavor- that if a druid chooses to do so, they can simply abandon there human lives and live the rest of their years out as a wolf in the woods. Perhaps a 9-12th level power of 'Choose Animal Form' that lets you choose a single form that has infinite duration whenever you use it. It must be a specific form, markings and all, etc...

I am glad the elemental wildshaping has been reshuffled a little. It always needed to be high level, because it barely belongs in a core druid class. But it was never quite powerful or cool enough for a Lord of Druids who can be fire. With all the special powers, you now have a Lord of the Forest who can rightly claim to be a Lord of the Earth.

That was long-winded cause its late. Nite all.

I believe the typo was 4th or 5th level spells around level 14 or 15. There is one column (except 9th) where the 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5s after that progression is off by one number.

I could be wrong.

And Yeah! for Spot and Listen on the class list now. Animal Emp's skill point can go to spot now and the skillpoint for Int Dir can go to listen. And ya dont even take a hit.

By the way, with the exception of being a seperate skill, I thought Animal Emp always worked on the diplomacy mechanic. Am I wrong?

I dig the 3.5 druid. Spontaneous summons, doing away with weapon restrictions and better defined animal companions are all good.

Is this another typo/error:

"A druid who wears prohibited armor or carries a prohibited shield is unable to cast druid spells or use any of her supernatural or spell-like class abilities while doing so and for 24 hours thereafter." (emphasis added)

At a quick glance, I don't see any spell-like abilities. I see a lot of extraordinary abilities, including wildshape which used to be spell-like.

Still not prof with a Scythe, but still prof with a scimitar... *sigh*

The one thing I was hoping would get changed...

I'm a bit curious about the animal companions. It only discusses the starting companion. I would wonder if animal friendship is changed and if the druid still has room if they can have additional companions. I always sort of like the idea of a druid with multiple companions for special jobs...

one as cook. one as tailor. one as linkboy. one as camp follower.

one as band member. every hero needs theme music.
