Actually, I wouldn't assume that at all. It precludes the classic "bumbling idiot factor", where you have a character that isn't smart enough to get out of your way. . However, for playability sake, I've always allowed the "freely move through allies spaces" rule.
I'm currently apathetic (hehe) about the charge/overrun rule. It comes up so rarely, I'd probably handle it on a case-by-case basis, anyway (Does "so and so" have time to move before the blood-crazed barbarian charges through them to kill the villian? Or perhaps he'll end up ramming "so and so" into the "villian's lap"? That last, I've seen be a useful maneuver...especially for the bad guys. Who cares if you flunky dies as you snowplow the enemy?
