Dammit, I knew there was going to be something I hated. Everything I'd heard so far I'd liked, but I just knew the other shoe had to drop.
I don't use miniatures, except for truly massive, complex battles. I don't want to use miniatures. I don't like using miniatures.
And yes, I know they're not going to come and force me, but by rewriting the books so that the game assumes miniatures are in play, they just about guarantee that all new players from this point on will use miniatures, and the game will continue to evolve further in that direction.
Don't get me wrong. I've no objections to them including rules for minis, as they did in 3E original. But don't require them! Don't assume them!
What happened to options, not restrictions?
The game now assumes that you use a battlemat (or something of the sort) and minis, and the rules are written to reflect this aspect of the game.
