I just loaded up on DTRPG. Got 43 items for $7.48. lmao #Winning A few I had to wait on as I'm flat broke, but these are going right into my 40GB folder of RPG books. I need to expand that to at least double it's current size...lol

I'd recommend it. The RPG folder on my computer just passed 100 GB a little while ago, and don't even get me started on how many print products I own.

One of these days, we should compare titles. You gave me a lot of good suggestions in this thread alone!
Honestly, the hard part is remembering where everything is, both digitally and physically.

For instance, I was going to mention Purple Duck Games' Ultimate Covenant Magic as a potential way to replace (as least some) magical gear in your campaign, since the book (as I recall) has a table giving GP values to the pacts characters can make with various creatures in exchange for powers...but for the life of me, I can't find my print copy on my shelves anywhere now.

My collection of physical copies is much smaller. I love my Masterwork Maps books, and the Ultimate Game Designer's Companion is a must in any collection--so much goodness in there for low-magic campaigns, including rules for much more lethal combat.

Hm, I should pick the Ultimate Game Designer's Companion up from the look of it. I've been going back and getting a lot of old Mongoose Publishing stuff lately. Their Infernum trilogy of books is absolutely fantastic for any kind of campaign set in Hell, and best of all, the first of the three books is free on DriveThruRPG!

Even the PDF is $35 for this one. Ouch! Don't suppose you know where I might get it a bit cheaper...?
Frog god puts a lot of stuff in Humble Bundle bundles and on irregular big sales on drive thru. I have gotten a lot of huge PDFs from them on humble and while sales are irregular Black Friday is coming up.

What do you think about the concept of magical items, especially wonderous items, or things like rings and staves in particular, having histories that the characters must unravel as part of learning their functions? I always wanted to set something up where magical items weren't just randomly assigned by treasure tables, and had histories that could then inspire more side-line adventures as the characters learn their history and it gets woven back into the main campaign.

I figure in a low-magic campaign, that would be easier to manage since most magical items would likely be heirloom pieces and be passed down generationally.

If I may self plug a tiny bit, take a look at The Enchiridion of Treasures and Objects D’art (link: DriveThruRPG ) - was designed for 3e, has a low magic system based on the material used to make stuff, an alternate economic system, and was made free for all once sales petered off 20 ish years ago. If you like it, great, if not you are only down the time to download and read.
