3.5e Planescape - Cold Black Mask OOC Thread

I'm not out to rain on anyone's parade; I'm just offering my own (biased) opinion. :heh:

For me, less is more. Smaller groups makes for less waiting in-between combat posts, makes reaching group consensuses faster and makes group interaction smoother as it's easier to keep track of each PC's background, personality and available skills. Managing fewer players also makes the DM's job easier and helps to prevent DM-burnout; the demise of so many PBP games.

That's just my opinion though. If everyone else is fine with having seven players and Cage-Rattler believes he can handle it then it's fine by me. ;)

I'm of two minds about large groups. In face-to-face playing, it can slow the game down tremendously and give everyone less face time. The same is not strictly true in PbP gaming. Yes, it does slow the game down (and PbP games are always slow), but because there's always a record of the game, not as much face time is lost. You could even give yourself some retroactive face time, if you like (though this could be subject to abuse).

On the other hand, if you start out with a large group in a PbP game, there's always a fighting chance that during any given week you'll have at least half of your players respond. And sometimes that's all you need to keep a game going. If you have three players and two don't respond, you're pretty much out of luck. But with a quorum of 4 out of 7 or so, then you have a full adventuring party's imput, even if it's not the full party.

This is just things I've noticed over my years of running and playing PbPs on this board.

One more meeting today, then I'll post in the IC reply. Some things to cover here:

Normally I wouldn't consider taking more than six players in a face-to-face game, but I'm willing to make an exception in a PbP game, since there's less worry about (as Isida mentioned) about people getting equal amounts of "face-time". On-line is also the only medium (that I know of) where it's not a nightmare for the DM if the group wants to pursue different paths. ;)

That said, I understand Ambrus' concern about spending more time waiting for more people to post.

So, ultimately, I think that I will allow both Scurry and Shayuri in, but I'm also going to be fairly strict about the posting rate (at least three times a week, or once every other day on average). Good news is, I think everyone's been on top of that except for me. :heh:

Scurry and Shayuri, let's get to work on getting the both of you set up. :)

Scurry:[sblock]
Maybe the guy has one last deed to do before he gets emancipation from the powers he made a foolhardy contract with in his youth?
Were you thinking of the tried-and-true, "spy who works for his/her diabolic (or demonic) masters while at the same time yearning to throw off his/her shackles and take a stand against his/her overseers"? If so, I could definitely work that into the game. :] If not, let me know if there's something else you have in mind.[/sblock]

Shayuri:[sblock]Any idea on how you'd like your eventual character to be introduced to the game? I was tentatively toying with the idea of affiliating him/her with at group of NPCs the current players might interact with, but I'm open to any ideas you might have.[/sblock]

===========================================

Before I forget, there a few others things I want to have clarified with some of you:

Ambrus:[sblock]I'm thinking you may have forgotten that using your "Speed of Thought" power requires you to spend a full round to become Psionically Focused. In fact, I can calculate your movement rate up to base of 60' per round, or 70' with "speed of Thought": Base 30; Scout ability adds 10'; Quick feat adds 10'; Boots add 10'; "Speed of Thought" adds 10'. Let me know if I'm overlooking something.[/sblock]

DireLemming:[sblock]I was curious about the "Mimir" you have recorded in your inventory: did you use A Player's Primer to he Outlands as your reference?[/sblock]

[sblock=Cage-Rattler]I'm still considering concepts, so that's hard to answer. However, if you have some ideas, please do share them. It might help give me some focus in my character generation...[/sblock]

I'm not sure I can remember, I think I read it in the Planewalker.com PSCS files, but I also seem to remember someone telling me that it cost 2000. Mostly what I remember about Mimirs is from Planescape torment. They usually look like silver skulls and can record, store, and share information. Also, they're allot less interesting conversationalists than Morte.

Shayuri, you could always be an acquaintance of an acquaintance of Anthony or something. He knows lots of people.

Pretty much! I was leaning demon for two reasons: First, the character's chaotic, so it seemed like a better fit. Second, a spy for the devils would be more straightforwardly antagonistic to the rest of the party than I'm comfortable with playing, even with the understanding that the character is gonna cut and run to the PC's side.
