3 party members killed!

Reapersaurus: please be polite, or don't post to these threads at all. I'm getting tired of asking you not to be rude every time you read a DM thread that makes you angry.

Thanks, man,

- PCat

PS That being said, the Dead Alewives comment is pretty funny. :)
Well, if you replaced "rude" with "irreverent" and "angry" with "flabbergasted", I'd go that far... :)

I hear ya, Pkitty - it's just that in a 1,247 word post that only has ONE sentence that doesn't revolve around what his PC's and NPC's did, it seems like his threads are more Story Hour material than RPG Discussion.

James - if you're really looking for suggestions on how to deal with your party, you could look up all the suggestions that the people gave you on the past 3 threads (particularly the Sapphire dragon strategy recommendations. I seem to remember people trying to think of way around scrying and teleportation. Mostly relied on high-level Wards and such, if memory serves).
They are still the same, since your party is not doing anything different than before.
Scrying, Wind Walking, and Teleporting.

And coming back from the dead. :p

P.S. I LIKE you well enough, James - i think you are a fairly reasonable individual.
I guess i am just hoping for the day when you'll see how ... unbelievable... you're campaign sounds.

Since scrying is a little bit of a problem (and teleport), I'd recommend Screen and Dimensional Lock (Magic of Faerun). Not sure how powerful your villain is, but these are both 8th level spells.

Later!

James, I enjoyed reading that post, I have a very non comabt oriented campaign going, but I still enjoyed reading about yours. Do you have a story hour where I can read about it?

For spells, I would reckomend power words and Force cage.

Since the necromancer knows her weakness (divination) and knows that she's helpless against that kind of magic, I would say that shoring up this defense would be a prime concern of hers. Perhaps she could use some of the money she got from the PCs to hire a diviner to provide defense against scrying for her sanctuary. After all, she can't be plotting nefarious deeds in front of a live audience.... ;)

Yeah, try to keep those dragons and goblins and kobolds believable, okay? Like the ones that live in Reapersaurus' cellar who check his scenarios for accuracy.

Although...this thread really does belong in the PLOTS forum.

Hi Jamies i really like the sound of that fight ...ENERGY TRANSFORMATION FIELD...if she can pick the battle field this will be a killer. Buy her a shield gurd...that will scare them...and moving on to this guy: reapersaurus...hey nothing against you and stuff but really leave off...hell the first game of 3e i ran got a bit out of hand because i used the RULES...i play in 2 game run one...there are all very different but all great fun...i think you should leave off or look at what other people post...hell if half the stuff in here was RPG stuff it would have been an acted of god.

Reapersaurus: I honestly don't know what you mean by the idea of squeezing a bag through the bars being hilarious. Sure, it might sound kind of funny, but if the bag fits, and the person fits, it sounds like a damned good use of available resources to me. It certainly wasn't the only way the party could have escaped, but it worked.

What's this Deadalewives thing? Maybe I can use them for plot research. :)

more Story Hour than RPG Discussion
And? Do you think that every post in this section is completely on topic and only deals with general RPG discussion? Of course not. I suppose I could have put the first section of my post in the story hour and the question here with a link. But I personally think that's more work than your average poster would want to go through for a thread, and that I'll be more likely to get more responses this way.

As for looking at other threads, I have, and I will again. That doesn't mean that other spells wouldn't be useful as well. I'm looking for tactics, spells, and any other constructive feedback people care to give.

Piratecat: Thanks for the backup. I'm actually getting fairly used to him assaulting me at nearly every post I make, and am more than prepared to turn on my "ignore switch" in my head and just let him do what he wants. :)

Cloudgatherer: I don't have Magic of Faerun, but I think Dimensional lock was reprinted in Tome and Blood. The Necromancer is 18th level, so 8th level spells are doable. I don't know that dimensional lock is really worthwhile though, as its only a 15' radius, and it is visible. The party would just teleport 30 feet away from her. Screen is definitely a good suggestion though. Thanks!

UD: No story hour right now. I need to combine all my posts into one though I suppose, I just don't have a lot of time for that right now. She's got Power Word, stun and Forcecage. Power word Kill wouldn't be bad, but she'd have to guesstimate correctly after damaging someone, as she knows they'd be immune to it right off the bat. Well, maybe not the sorceror, if she successfully dispelled his endurance.

Taloncomics: At least 2 hours. I wasn't watching the clock, but I know it was a long one. It didn't take as long as it could have though, because I had sat down and laid out a general strategy for the necromancer in advance.

wolfspider: she doesn't need a diviner, most of the scrying defenses aren't divination spells. She also has a fairly high scry skill, just so she'll know when she's being looked at.

Tom Cashel: good one! :)

bitterman: What is Energy Transformation Field? She can definitely pick the battlefield, simply by remaining where she wants to fight them. if it takes them longer than a few months to attack, she would return (carefully) to travelling around. But knowing my players, it won't take them that long to go after revenge.

What do you mean by shield gaurd? Do you mean a henchman? Or a Shield Guardian from the MM? If its shield Guardian, I don't think she'll have that much cash available, as most of the sorceror's gear she'll keep to use for herself. That would be wrong though. Maybe she could hire a devoted defender?

Up until a while back, when my baby was born, I also played in two totally different games. As I've stated in several threads, my current campaign is high-powered. The next one will be a Core rules only (without special consent) run through Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. The game after that? Who knows? But high-powered isn't the only style of game I play or run, its just what seems to have gotten reaper's goat. That and apparently my NPCs and plots don't strike him as believable. I guess I shouldn't ever let anything over CR15 die. After all, if you're that powerful, you can't be weak enough to actually get killed. Of course, the party would be over CR15, but he disagrees with resurrection, so I'm kinda confused. :)

How aobut Mind Blank? This 8th level abjuration protects against ALL mind affecting spells, and foils any divination that gathers info. Scrying spells aimed at the target does not work.

It has a duration of 24 hours.

Metafaculty (clairsentience 9) might be able to gather some info though.

Nondetection might be a lower level option.

Energy Tranformation field is a Magic of Faerun spell that drains the energy from certain spells and uses it to power another spell effect. I don't have MaoF so I'm not sure about the particulars. I think it's level 6 and has an XP cost though.
