36th level epic characters...best combos?

my DM is running a short campaign using the Epic rules.

we are to make evil 36th level characters, using any class/race combination that we wish, but no templates or monster races.

we get 5d6, reroll 1s, keep the best three.
use the stats (from first level): 18 18 17 15 14 13

our mission, as given to us by Lolth, is to destroy the city of paladins that is threating to eliminate evil completely from the land.

the DM will assign magic items to us, so we will not necessarily have items to enhance our specific abilities to the max.

i would love some character suggestions. what would you create?

If you've got the Dragon magazine with the Epic level coverage, go monk and take 10 levels of Perfected One. It utterly beats the **** out of everyone in terms of saving throws. Trust me.

Or go down the Incantatrix/Archmage route, with lots of metamagic and several Improved Metamagic/AutomaticQuicken/Multispell feats. :D

You know... My roommate did this deal once where the DM gave the a million XP that they could use to buy levels and/or magic items. And then they were going to have a PC to PC duel to see who was the victor.

He started out making a necromancer, but scrapped that idea, in favor of an archer.

I have all 4 of those Encyclopedia Arcane books (from 2E), and he used those to build an insane archer.

He was elven (of course), and put every stat, skill, kit (again, 2e) into archery. He ended up with a character with magic items (two quivers of Ehlonna, IIRC), and some scary bow, and he could deliver something like 20-200 points of damage in a single round with NORMAL arrows.

And he had something called a ring of the phoenix, which meant that if he was killed, he'd be reincarnated as a hybrid man/phoenix thing. Totally munchkin.

Anyway, the DM wouldn't allow it, since he decided it was too powerful. Pfeh!

In any case, I'd go with an archer, and then arcane archer, and dump every conceivable point, feat, skill, etc, into archery. You will be completely unstoppable.

Oh, it'll be good, if you take the Arcane Arhcer PrC into epic levels ;) Something like +13 arrows.. another good route is the Order of the Bow Initiate, and then Master of the Order of the Bow, from the epic dragon magazine. Wis bonuses to damage, threaten 30ft with bow ;)

Great stuff.

Well for an archer, the best combo would be

1 lv Ranger (Monty Cook's or Alt.Bow ranger)
4 lvs Fighter
10 OoBI
10 DWS
10 MoOB

You've got one spare lvl for barbarian (extra move + rage), rogue, mage or what ever strikes your fancy for a utility class.

Of course if your DM is a real sucker, you could go with some peerless archer levels at the expense of the OoBI and DWS levels. Don't give up any of the MoOB levels though, iirc the 10th lv ability for that is the threaten 30' and don't forget to take Combat Reflexes.

In any case, improved initiative feats to increase the likelyhood of going first is VERY useful since you have a bunch of sneak attack dice and if you can go before their initiative you'll catch them flat footed and get your sneak attack dice on every arrow.

You could be a 17th level Cleric and a 19th level Wizard, but 18/18 might work as well. You only have to take Epic Spellcasting once and the number of Epic spells you cast is cumulative. On top of that, you have an incredibly large collection of spells to cast each day. Also, Improved Metamagic would work well, too.

You would only have 6 Epic Feats, though; I think it's a small price to pay for a large increase in power.

Also, a Druid 36 would work well in Dragon forms.
