Count me in as another person who's cautiously excited to try out a Shaman. The class really lends itself to reflavoring, in my mind: mine'll be the last Dwarf of his clan, having survived some horrible onslaught or disease, who summons the ghosts of his closest friends and family to aid his "new" clan.

Oh, and heck yeah, Assassin. Most flavorful class we've had in a while.

a Goliath Barbarian with a Mordenkrad

Hey - that's my character! He is a blast to play not the least because our group developed a shared background where we all knew each other for years and became an adventuring band deliberately. Mechanically he rocks as a striker - massive damage but is he gets pinned down he drops pretty fast. Speed and open spaces are his friend.

Is this a polearm build? Because I don't see why the Swordmage shouldn't be doing 1d12 with a fullblade on their OA/Melee Basic.
Swordmages have some encouragement to use one-handed weapons, including +2 AC for the free hand.

Rangers don't seem to have enough options; what if you want to use a hunting spear?
I wish there were a "skirmisher" build (uses two thrown weapons, attacks with Strength or Dex at both melee or range).

Cheers, -- N

There's a paragon path for that. And a lot of powers are dual purpose.

Which path?

(I know many powers are dual-purpose, but those powers are also dual-stat. What I'm saying is: the "Skirmisher" build would allow you to use one stat, either Str or Dex, for both ranged AND melee attack powers. Probably Strength, since it's inherently weaker than Dexterity, and since Heavy Thrown weapons exist as a flavor justification.)

I was thinking of Avalanche Hurler.

But I hadn't thought about the dual stat issue- it doesn't change that.

Overall still a good paragon path (particularly the level 12 utility), and while I had forgotten the str/dex issue, it works perfectly for our ranger who, for various plot related reasons, throws daggers.
