[4e] covaithe's E1: Death's Reach

Re: CharOp monk - there's nothing I've seen, in fact I just hopped over there, and there's not even a handbook set-up, let alone specific super cheese builds. I've seen the monk a bit in action (albeit only 3rd level), but he was a bit underwhelming, especially compared to a Storm of Blades-dropping barbarian (what was that 200 dmg in a round?)

Well, to be fair, that 200 damage round was a daily plus the storm of blades, and set up with a +7 righteous brand bonus and the target being blind ;)

I too would like to see how the 4e monk looks. Since I can't remember off the top of my head, were any of the alternates from the first round of recruiting strikers?

Encounter 2 is done. At EL 23 (33,800 xp), that one was a bit closer to a decent challenge for you guys, but I still didn't really feel like I was pressuring you. Maybe if I'd been able to focus my fire a bit more; I found myself spreading it around more than I'd like.

I continue to be disappointed with high level brutes. Even at level 22, they just didn't stand a real chance of hitting any of you. The death giant was boring and a waste of xp budget; I'm not sure why I left him in. The ghoul horde was much more interesting, but didn't live long enough to affect the fight. I think you guys sensed a threat and focused on it early, maybe.

Ah, well. We'll find the right balance yet!

I promise I'll look into retraining for some bonus save powers when we level up ;)

I don't know about anyone else, but I figured the ghoul horde was Bad News (tm), so I focused on it for the beginning of the fight. The stragglers would've been a lot more of a problem without Kylek's blizzard too - that is one rockin awesome power!

It's also worth noting that I don't think I used any healing powers during the course of the fight. Also worth noting is the amount of healing I can throw out with healing words - I can heal two people at once with each one, and it looks like they can each heal nearly half of any of our PCs hp. Longevity doesn't seem to be as much of a concern at epic as it is at early heroic ...

I asked in the IC thread whether you guys would prefer to take two short rests and have me heal in between, since all of my healing would be maximized then - this thread would be a better place for that discussion. Healing without maximizing gets 3 of us to max hp, and 3 are within about 20 hp of max. Probably not a big deal, since each healing word seems to heal 50+ hp.

I'm fine with the healing without maximizing, Kalas probably doesn't want to sit around longer if there is Orcus' servants infiltrating such a holy place.

Hmm, as far as replacing Anostor, I agree with the general consensus another striker would be ideal, preferably one with some focused burst damage, since that's where Kylek falls down. Besides higher damage outputs keep PbP combat moving along a little quicker. :)

Regarding the ghoul horde, I'll admit it wasn't threat identification so much as, "hey, a swarm, let me AoE the thing I've got plenty of those".

This battle was definitely more interesting than the last. I know I got lucky in that all the bad status effects missed Kylek. Of course if you asked him, he'd just say that's because he's awesome. :P

Regarding healing, maximizing is not as big a deal to me since Kylek has plenty of surges, but we don't want to let any one person get too low too fast so we'll just have to keep an eye on that.

@Cov Totally missed that I didn't link, Sorry about the space case... it didn't include vulnerability, but it's not like it mattered, Kylek dropped her near the end.

As for healing, Massacre could care less if he dies, so long as there isn't a deadline to the mission. So pressing forward is no sweat for him.

Gonna wait a day or two and see if any of the guys from first round of recruiting shows up, but it might be worth your time to work that monk up to L21.
Will start with the updating. Any changes in character creation?

Nothing there, so not feeling dumb for doing something less effective and not stealing charas from there :)

What do you mean by 'focused burst damage'?
