4e lovefest?

Yeah, it's not really the 4e "Lovefest" that I don't like, but the 3e "hatefest" that this places seems to have turned into. And I think Alan is right, a lot of that does hvae to do with how WOTC is marketing the game, basically by pointing out all the flaws in 3e, real and imagined. (And criticism of D&D tropes, too)

True, that existed long before 4e, but 4e has made it worse.

The 3E hatefest does indeed exist - in the 4E forum - in some threads - by a smallish cadre of posters. Maybe you could avoid that (tiny) section of ENWorld and, I dunno, click on a forum that isn't the 4E one?

That's going to be more difficult when the General forum becomes merged with the 4e forum, assuming we decide to go that route. Thread categories will help somewhat.

Anyone besides me notice that right now the General forum has relatively little traffic?

I guess that's why I'm starting to find myself gravitating more towards Paizo's message boards lately. I'm running a Pathfinder campaign, and we're using some of the PF RPG rules.

General has been pretty dead lately. I guess the writing's on the wall regarding 3/3.5E threads, but then again, it had a good run, dinnit?

In my day I never had to worry about catering to two distinct audiences or trying to force them to get along. I don't envy the current administration their many difficult decisions!

How about keeping the 4e forum as is until the game is actually released, and just call it the 4e Speculation Archive after June 6th?

Once it's out and people have the books, I certainly agree that 4e deserves to be in General. I just really don't relish the thought of all those speculation threads getting dumped into an otherwise useful forum about actual gaming.

ps - Hey, did diaglo say something? My grogndar pinged. ;)

As far as the sweat spot goes, try some bleach.

General certainly slowed down. If 4E goes there, it will liven right up.

Liven up in an "edition wars" sort of way? I guess we all hope not. (like I said, mea culpa).

Edit: BUT, Enworld is a lovefest compared to, say, the rest of the internet. There have been many good "edition comparison" threads.

Don't Panic.

Don't feel bad about that. You should always go where you have the most fun, and where you find the most usefulness. I'm always thrilled when people discuss Pathfinder material here, but there will obviously be more traffic for it at Paizo's boards.

I don't feel bad. We'll always have CM!

Absolutely. Which is why I don't participate much in the forums these days. The designer blogs are full of rhetoric about how much fun we weren't having with 3e, and an unfortunately large segment of the 4e hopefuls went and ran with it.

*puts on cynical and sarcastic hat*

Thanks to WOTC for realizing in five years 3e wasn't good.

Unlike 1e and 2e which took a lot longer.

AFAIK WotC took over TSR in 1997, so it took them only a year or two to "realize 2e wasn't good." ;)
