[4e] Metallic Dragons

(But then again, I'd be thrilled to death to never again see the gem dragons even "mentioned", so we're obviously coming from different places. ;))

Hey, I liked those psionic dragons.:p

Seriously though, one of my favorite D&D dragons was the Steel Dragons (don't know if 4E still has them or if they've been changed). I liked how they could live in humanoid form, even entire humanoid lifetimes, in secret. Also, I really liked the super quick Mercury dragons. Kind of a dragon on speed.

I think that ended up being one of the problems with dragons in the past. There ended up being so many different kinds that it started to push the bounds of believability (I know, but for me that's despite the fact it's make believe, didn't say it was necessarily logical;)). At the same time, everyone has their favorites that they want to see. What are game companies and game designers to do?;)

I think I'm most looking forward to the scourge dragons. Bring on the linnorms. Based on their earlier incarnations, I'm assuming they will epic tier threats (catastrophe dragons sound like epic threats to me too).

Okay, I officially recant my previous "DRAGONS X-TREME!!!!" judgment.

Dragons of elemental destruction are close to what dragons are mythically, and linnorms are pretty cool, period.

The names are generic "oooh scary," but there's potential there.

(And this coming from someone who's a big fan of both the metallics and chromatics, and who wrote a huge chunk of Draconomicon I.)
Did you? Cool. I really should put a bit more effort into remembering who writes what.

Except that now you are dead to me :)

I'm also excited for Scourge and Catastrophic Dragons.

I could so see a Scourge Dragon slowly parading through a town stricken by plague, followed by a band of zombies gathering plague-tormented corpses in carts to feed their master.

Thats . . bu . . . . . . Wow . . . Awesome image . . . . . .

Something nice for an upper level Paragon or low to mid epic, combined with PLague from Expeditious retreat :hmm: :D

SO when they going to release these? Some gueses - we might see Planar dragons in the planar handbook. Mettalics and ?? in MM2?

Phaezen

I've been meaning to get Plague sooner or later (especially good for my bayou campaign).

I hope the Scourge Dragons are like how I imagined, they will be truly nasty threat. But while the majority are evil, you could still make some interesting personalities.

Well, I mostly liked that there _were_ psionic dragons. I never understood why they had to be _gem_ dragons, though, just like I never understood the connection between crystal and psionics.

I never cared for metallic dragons, btw.

My preferred implementation for dragons would have been stats for a 'true dragon' at several sizes/age categories as a standard monster plus a set of templates to create specific types of dragons (incidentally turning them into Elite monsters).
If you want to create a particularly intelligent or 'special' dragon, add another template (one of the existing, general ones, e.g. the npc ones).

I know it's a sacred cow, but I never liked how D&D linked a dragon's colour to it's type and thus it's set of abilities.
